Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Temporarily Closed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios After Massive Lightning Strike

The internet blew up with Emperor Palpatine jokes last night after we first shared a video of a massive lightning bolt hitting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

While no injuries or immediate damage were reported, it seems that isn’t the only thing that blew up last night, as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance has failed to open today, reportedly due to issues with a blown power generator.

Boarding Groups were distributed as usual this morning at 10:00 AM and again at 2:00 PM, however no groups have been called for today due to the ride still being down.

Rumors are circulating that the lightning bolt may have taken out some electrical units pertinent to the ride, given that the bolt struck somewhere in the Resistance Forest by the Rise of the Resistance attraction. However, none of this is confirmed, and other nearby attractions, like Muppet*Vision 3D are also temporarily closed for the day. Disney has an extensive lightning rod system in place throughout all of its parks that is designed to sustain extreme weather conditions.

We’ll continue to monitor the status of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance for any further updates to this story.
