It seems Emperor Palpatine is back at it again. Nightly lightning shows have become a regular occurrence at Walt Disney World lately due to summer storms rolling in every evening, and a new video on social media shows the sheer power of nature—even on Batuu.
A video by Twitter user @Austin_Cop_17 shows a massive lightning bolt striking one of the lightning rods embedded throughout the taller points of the land. Just before lightning strikes, all one hears is the familiar whirring of the machinery throughout the Resistance Forest. And suddenly, a lightning bolt hits, with the camera flashing to white and even the audio going out on the video due to the nearby impact.
While startled from the loud boom, no one was hurt, nor was any damage recorded at the site… Black Spire is safe from the evil forces of the Sith, for now.

Wow that was intense! Two years ago my wife and I were waiting at a Caribbean Beach bus stop to get back to the Customs House. The rain started coming down hard! I went to take a look around the corner to see if the bus was on its way, and lightning struck right in the middle of the neighboring parking lot. It was the loudest sound I have ever heard in my life and the monitors in the bus stop flickered. It was a pretty crazy experience.
oh HECK no imma skedaddle before palps comes for me
Take the hint Disney.
Walt has been trying to get your attention since you prematurely reopened.
Maybe its not about the almighty dollar after all
I lived in Orlando for a few years and everyday between 4 and 5 pm is a loud thunderstorm. Lightning hitting all around. Most of the year so this is nothing new
My cousin would never have closed the parks. He was in the middle of the Spanish Flu Pandemic.
He would not force “guests” to wear masks.
It would be Roy O who would have been the decision maker. Roy O was the CEO. Roy O would not have closed the parks.
Save Splash Mountain!
Years ago on a typical August day in Epcot, we were walking near the International Gateway. It was sunny when suddenly a heat strike boomed — quite loudly — and made a lot of guests jump and scream. No one was hurt and most laughed it off. Of course, it signaled the daily PM thunderstorm which was nice cooling things off.
I was just there yesterday!!
what time did this happen?
Iight have old pictures of bad weather at WDW, since I have grown up with WDW (my 4th birthday party was at the 1-month old Magic Kingdom), and I now live 20 miles south of the resort property. Last night was a veritable show with lightning and thunder for almost 3 1/2 hours!
Recently –no. But a few years ago, we were just getting off the bus to walk to our campsite at Ft. Wilderness when a storm came up. We hurried to the camper and I held the aluminum door for every one to hurry in from the rain. As I was holding, lightning struck nearby and I felt it through the door very strongly. Not a direct hit or I would not be typing this, I think.
My family was there when it happened! We had split up to do different things before park closing. The storm was getting started as the park closed. Daughter and I decided to duck Inside a shop. One of the scariest thunderstorms I’ve ever witnessed. We heard it when it hit – so loud! I’m not usually frightened by thunderstorms but this one freaked me out a bit. Son was in Galaxies Edge when it hit, said everything went totally white. Our family was reunited and made it out safely. What Ann experience! The thunderstorms here are intense!
a long time ago i was just a kid 1980 something and it was about 6 pm and it looked like midnight so we ran for the monorail at the kingdom to back to the poly not a smart move standing under a giant erector set net to a large body of water. So with and the10000 other people who had the same idea we only made it to the ramp so while waiting for the monorail a bolt of lightning hit the water no more than 100 feet or so it was absolutely terrifying, beautiful, and deafening. Complete panic ensued people tried to run, stupid!!! the event was over everone was safe and within a half hour the sun was out
So the rise of the resistance has been closed all day and some cast members are blaming last night’s storm, so not entirely harmless
Shocking. But was cool even going there once!
Take the hint Disney
The ultimate force in the universe has spoken
He hates the way you have treated The original Star Wars Fans and what you did to Lucas and Star Wars
Maybe its not about the almighty dollar after all
Is god a coward afraid of jedi
glad the lightning rod did its job!
Weird to see multiple people say “take the hint Disney” when this is just your average ordinary central Florida weather that has been happening for ages. It’s not a sign; it’s normal weather.
