It’s the circle of life… and it seems Disney is going back in for another live-action “The Lion King”, this time with a sequel to the 2019 film, to be directed by Barry Jenkins, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind “Moonlight”.
From Variety:
The movie will be a continuation of the studio’s 2019 photorealistic remake, rather than the 1994 cartoon. Jon Favreau directed the recent reboot to mixed reviews but massive box office receipts; it generated over $1.5 billion at the global box office.
A release date has not been announced for the sequel, which is said to delve into Mufasa’s backstory, as well as the mythology of the characters.
Ugh, why?? Disney just doesn’t do good live action animals. They need to hang up the animal CG hat.
noooooo. Another cash grab. This is just sad at this point.
I know the first one was insanely successful but we don’t need this. We didn’t need the first one – it was way too close to the original and it’s not “live action” so what’s the point? Plus Beyonce’s performance was atrocious. At least with the sequel hopefully we’ll get a new story (not like animated The Lion King 2). Hope they don’t run it into the ground like some of the other live action movies.
Not again….
