It is almost Christmas, and here in Southern California that usually means some of the busiest days at the Disneyland Resort. Join us as we take a look at the holiday crowds around Downtown Disney after the implementation of the stay-at-home order in Southern California.
Security
We arrived at the Downtown Disney District early in the afternoon and we were surprised that we were able to walk right through the temperature check and security.
A few weeks ago, these switchbacks were filled with guests waiting to enter Downtown Disney.
Holiday Crowds
Our first stop was Disney’s Pin Traders, and we were able to walk right in!
Last wee,k we found some Fantasia and Toy Story pins!
During our visit, the Star Wars Trading Post was the only store utilizing a virtual waitlist.
On our last trip, we spotted this express register outside of Marceline’s Confectionery to assist with crowds outside the store.
The Cast Members update this sheet throughout the day based on what treats are still available.
World of Disney had a line outside, but it moved quickly and we were inside the store within 15 minutes. Click here to see some of the merchandise we found today at World of Disney!
The crowds inside the store are light to comply with the reduced capacity orders.
There was no line to enter Buena Vista Street!
When you look around the esplanade, you can see how light the holiday crowds are around the Downtown Disney District. While we found some lines to enter the stores around Downtown Disney, overall the resort has been significantly less busy since the closure of the dining areas.
Shopping Extensions
We saw this new sign advertising Buena Vista Street and featuring the Red Car Trolley with Carthay Circle in the background.
Even though there have been multiple dining closures in recent weeks, we have also seen several shops re-open as part of the Buena Vista Street extension. The first shopping extension to Buena Vista Street was Off the Page.
Gone Hollywood has also recently re-opened as part of the Buena Vista Street extension.
The Backlot Premiere Shop at Stage 17 has had another change in operation. Previously, guests would enter the Backlot Premiere Shop from the esplanade or they would be allowed to enter from Hollywood Land in order to check out at the register inside of Stage 17.
Guests will now enter the Backlot Premiere Shop at Stage 17 from the outdoor shopping area near the Hollywood Land arch. The entrance outside of Disney California Adventure to enter the Backlot Premiere Shop is no longer open.
Don’t worry, fans of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire – Play It! can still exit past the sign back to the esplanade.
That’s it for this trip to the Downtown Disney District! Make sure to check back, and follow us on social media via Instagram and Twitter for more updates on the Disneyland Resort.
