REVIEW: Traditional Coquito with Rum Now Available at the Universal Orlando Resort

As we wind down from all the holiday snacks and prepare for the upcoming Mardi Gras menus, we’ve noticed a new beverage offering around the parks. Traditional Coquito is available for limited time and you can even have it spiked with rum. We’re surprised this wasn’t offered during the holidays, but we decided to try the Coquito with Rum.

It’s a nice sized serving and comes iced. The beverage is premixed, so the rum is already blended in.

We thought it tasted a lot like Earl’s Nutty Nog from the Holiday Tribute Store. Later we were told this is what was left over from the Holiday Tribute Store. Well, that explains a lot.

The cinnamon is mixed in with this version instead of sprinkled on the top like it was with the Nutty Nog. It doesn’t come topped with a coconut cake, either, and the price is more expensive. It did have a slightly different flavor, with the rum, coconut, and cinnamon flavors standing out. We’re not sure how much like traditional coquito this actually tastes, but we did taste the rum in every sip of this smooth, creamy drink.

We found this at the Monsters Cafe stand in Universal Studios Florida. The alcoholic version is $13.50 and the non alcoholic is $6. We also found this on the menu at Ale to the Chief in Toon Lagoon at Islands of Adventure, but the alcoholic version is made with with Cruzan Rum instead of Bacardi. We liked this drink, but not sure if we would order it again. If you enjoyed Earl’s Nutty Nog, you’ll want to give this Traditional Coquito a try before it’s gone.
