We’ve been watching the facade of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT slowly take shape, with wood paneling and weather-proof sheeting being added in layers over steel framework. More wood paneling has been added to an untouched portion of framework since we last took a look at construction.

The facade is slanted and angled to look more like a building one might find on an alien planet.

The next step on this portion of the facade will be to place the blue synthetic sheeting that protects it from rain and other weather.

Wires hang from some of the holes in the facade, possibly where lights will be affixed.

More layers have been added to the edge of the roof as well.

We even saw construction workers up there today.

Artist concept rendering: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at EPCOT at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The adventure starts in the Galaxarium, a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. Guests will be invited to learn more about the treasures Xandar has to share – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue. The attraction will feature a new innovation from Walt Disney Imagineering – a storytelling coaster that rotates 360 degrees to focus guests on the action, including the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster. Above is concept art of the attraction’s final form, although it is subject to change. For example, we can already see from current construction that there are only two entrances to the building, not three as the concept art suggests. Back in December, we got a glimpse of the Galaxarium inside the building.

Though Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was previously scheduled to open this year, it is likely delayed due to COVID-19.
