PHOTOS: Cast Members Asking Guests to Wear Masks in Some Outdoor Queues at Walt Disney World, Free Disposable Masks Available

We are in the parks today today for the first time since Disney ended the outdoor mask requirement at Walt Disney World. Guests no longer have to wear masks while outdoors. Despite the policy change, Cast Members are asking guests to pull up their masks in some outdoor queues.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we saw this in action at Toy Story Mania and Slinky Dog Dash.

Guests in the extended outdoor Toy Story Mania queue were not required to wear face masks.

As guests enter the queue proper, a Cast Member asks them to put on a mask.

Most guests waiting in the Slinky Dog Dash extended queue are unmasked. As they approach the entrance, guests are asked to don a mask.

We saw the same protocol at the Magic Kingdom as well.

Guests waiting in the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train extended outdoor queue are mostly maskless.

Guest who have lost their face mask — or didn’t think one was needed — can obtain a disposable face mask from a Cast Member at the attraction entrance. The disposable masks are individually packed.

WDWNT will continue to monitor the new outdoor mask policies at Walt Disney World Resort.

  1. This policy in its current form will last a month at most. It’ll change to no masks outside in all situations, and then finally indoors where even the CDC says masks are no longer needed for the vaccinated.

    • If Disney announces another dud earnings report like the last, who knows? They might bring back fast passes for folks staying at $745.00/night resorts!

  2. Handing out disposable masks at each ride seems like an odd step. I could see guests being confused about whether they need one in line (the details on Disney’s page do explain that “attraction entrances” are included places where masks are still required), it’s very clear that they’re still required on the ride itself. So if someone’s getting in line you’d think they’d at least have one available without needing a disposable, unless they were just planning to stroll through the line without riding.

  3. Let the complete mask phase out begin! Hopefully within the next week or so the signs will only read “Feel free to wear a mask if that’s your personal preference” everywhere on property.

  4. From what i heard from a cast member there not allow to ask you too only when it cones too being inside for the ride meaning waiting

  5. People should know they are still required at this point. If they want to give them out free, then people should just realize that it’s ultimately going to be passed on to all Guests as price increases. Easy add on – no mask, you’re free to purchase one for a $2.00 charge to MDE. Easy peasy!

  6. CDC has already said that vaccinated individuals need not wear a mask inside or outside. I think this disney policy is confusing. Disney dropped masks outside, and they make people wear a mask outside in a line. Where is the logic on that? I feel sorry for the cast members. They thought they had unruly guests before; this will be POed guests 2.0. I got to buy makeup; our mask mandate drops in our blue state 5/21/21.
