Today we stopped by VooDoo Doughnut at CityWalk Orlando to try two of their seasonal doughnuts available this summer: their Olympic Ring doughnut and a Summer S’mores donut available exclusively in the Universal Orlando mobile app.
Olympic Ring Doughnut — $3.75
VooDoo Doughnut is offering five Olympic ring-themed doughnuts just in time for this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.
You can order the doughnut in each of the five colors of the Olympic rings, but the ingredients and flavor are identical. Does anyone else think it’s weird that the ring doughnuts aren’t actually rings?
These doughnuts are a raised yeast shell filled with Yuzu whipped cream topped with vanilla icing and sprinkles.
The Yuzu filling was fantastic! It boasted a tart, citrus flavor in a thick, fluffy cream filling. You could taste that wonderful lemony flavor with each bite, even bites without the cream. The super sweet vanilla icing and sprinkles on top of the doughnut were great and the donut was amazingly fresh. These are great summertime flavors- I would highly recommend this one!
Summer S’mores Doughnut — Mobile App Exclusive — $3.75
This is a raised yeast doughnut filled with chocolate whipped cream, dipped in chocolate icing, marshmallows and graham crackers.
Sadly this doughnut was a disappointment; and frankly, an insult to s’mores everywhere.
The donut shell was somewhat dry and stale, and that couldn’t be saved by the toppings or filling. The filling itself was a bit like hot chocolate flavor, or a chocolate marshmallow. It was okay but the donut itself wasn’t very good. The marshmallows on top were perfect, though.
I ended up eating the marshmallows and tossing most of the doughnut because it was dry and stale. Maybe since it’s a mobile order exclusive, they don’t sell many and the result isn’t as fresh.
