Walt Disney World Removes “Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls” Greeting from Fireworks at Magic Kingdom to Promote Inclusivity

Shared via Twitter from last night’s Cast Member preview of the return of Happily Ever After in the Magic Kingdom, Disney has now removed “Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls” from the pre-show announcement. Take a look at the video below comparing the previous announcement to the updated one.

The new greeting simply states, “Good evening, Dreamers of all ages.” Changes like this have also been made over in Tokyo Disney earlier this year.

This is just another step Disney has taken to ensure the experiences at the parks are inclusive to all.

      • It’s nonsense because Disney is changing something just for the sake of changing it, to appear “woke” and “inclusive,” which is really not based on anything at all. It’s just not necessary and it pisses ALOT of people off, including myself. Just because you don’t take offense to it doesn’t mean other people won’t. Don’t you want to be open-minded and accepting of ALL viewpoints and opinions?

        • You just described a near textbook definition of the free market. WDW is an American company. Its Parks and Resorts only operate in countries that also have an open market. If the people of Florida and Japan have expressed that they will not support a company that cannot change small aspects of its experience to be inclusive (the way the brothers who founded the company intended) then the company is going to change to accommodate them.

If you don’t like the change then shut your mouth and express your opinion with your dollar and your vote. That is the only way to make change to an American company without working for it or owning it. If you enjoy having the freedom of being American, then you have to learn to accept the freedom of others too.

      • It does not “hurt” anyone personally….its just another Woke moment that is unnecessary. If your trans this or trans that, the old welcome did include everyone.

So while we are on questions….How did the old welcome hurt anyone personally? Answer….it did not. So why do it?

        • Non-binary people deserve to feel included as well. Why not make the world more inclusive? That way no one gets hurt.

          • Maybe they should realize being non-binary means the world isn’t going to appeal to you because you can’t even appeal to yourself.

            • Disney was never being indecent to people.

Literally zero things wrong with the previous spiel, but fabricated outrage by a small minority of people will sway the largest companies with ease.

          • Look at the woke responses getting ratio’ed. That ought to tell you something about the stupidity of this non-binary nonsense. The left seems to be all “science” until it come to interrupting their social stances.

            • Looks like there are far more people who are for inclusivity and recognizing that perhaps not everyone thinks like you do. Bless your heart.

      • I am a woman. It is not a desire, a feeling or a whim. It is a scientific fact. The only reason their choosing to ignore this is because we are talking about Disney – pure fantasy.

        • Unless the science says a vaccine can help ya, and then Science is just a conspiracy to get you to microchip yourselves, ya sheep. (I will let you decide if there is no sarcasm, or if it’s just oozing in it.)

          • Wow, you’re making some real knee-jerk assumptions there regarding people’s opinion about an unrelated subject. Why are you such a bigot?

          • Again, how was the former greeting “excluding” anyone? Also, if you believe there is such a concept of non-binary persons, you are a science denier. Not one person in this chat has supported this position with ANY science whatsoever.

    • The original announcement did not include everyone. Being transgender is exactly what it sounds like sir, it is a transition. People who are experiencing a medical transition, regardless of if it was intentional or natural (think of women who experience menopause and/or men with genetic hormonal disorders), sometimes choose to identify outside of the bounds of the scientific definitions of “male and female.”

How we identify is a choice, sir. It always has been and always will be. But the words we choose to do that with will always change. That is simply the passage of time. Disney’s change, as a company is very American. It is motivated by the decisions of the free market. Because Disney has international subsidiaries, it has to remain as inclusive as possible to remain financially successful in the open market of planet earth.

Walt Disney did not found this company with hate in his heart and he died a man who spent his entire life battling his own biases to ensure his vision was shared with as many people as possible. And quite frankly, sir, if Walt were the man scanning your tickets on entry and he knew that you had an issue with the change his company decided to make (regardless of its motivation) he would not have admitted you.

Overall, the company Walt left behind will always agree to take your money. Not because its a bad company but because its an American company. And it will continue to change regardless of your personal beliefs. Not because it is a bad company, but because it was built by an American family. If you don’t believe me, ask the living Disney’s. They’re on social media and they’re aching for their opinions to be heard.

  1. Once more, Disney is so desperate to virtue signal to the 1% woke crowd at the expense of the majority of the populace. At this rate, Mickey and Minnie will have to be cancelled in favor of a more gender neutral character. So sad, China and Russia are maneuvering to dominate the world and the elites of this country are obsessed with gender pronouns. Very disconcerting and makes one fearful given the unsustainable trajectory of such supercilious posturing at the expense of pragmatism.

      • I take it you have no substantive rebuttal then. Typical to result to marginalizing contradictory views. There is nothing amusing, or “Lol” as you flippantly refer to it as in this topic. Apparently “inclusivity” only applies to those who share the ever fleeting trendy message of the day, not to all. Typical hypocrite.

        • John, to be honest, I have a substantive rebuttal. I just do not have the time to argue in the comments of a Disney news page.

To summarize what I would say, you’d be surprised at how large this supposed “woke crowd” is. And growing every day. I look forward to the day when people do not blame outside forces (like “elites” and “Russia”) for their own uncomfortability with change. Its okay not to like change, it is uncomfortable. But it is not the work of demonic forces.

          • No one on this forum is supporting exclusion of anyone from anything. Acts like this are not change. This is gratuitous virtue signaling, nothing more. I envy people who have the luxury of such first world problems that they can look for every little spec of anything to pick apart to find offense. If people do not grow a backbone this country is doomed. We are the laughing stock of the world over this superciliousness.

            • Have you ever been a part of a group that has been excluded and demonized by society? If so, it would truly help your argument about “virtue signaling”.

              • The greeting did not “exclude” or “demonize” anybody. Your argument is hollow and false. Try again.

      • thats the best you can do? You cannot type or vomit a substantive response. So you sent in the crazy/insane comment.

    • Respectfully, sir, that is simply your opinion and not based in fact. The Walt Disney Company is an enormous conglomerate of multiple subsidiaries. The one that ks responsible for implementing changes in the parks is WDPR (Walt Disney Parks and Resorts). I have worked for this subsidiary in the Magic Kingdom area for 5 years. I am no longer actively employed by the company but my family has been in Florida for nearly 40 years.

I have the experience to understand how the company operates, especially in the state of Florida and J can assure you that the 1%, China, and Russia have not a single thing to do with this change. WDPR only implements changes on a large scale (aka in multiple parks) when it is profitable. That is not because of a conspiracy, that is because Disney is an American company that operates only in the free market. There are no Disney Parks or Resorts in communist countries because that are not profitable. It is that simple.

The changes implemented in Tokyo and Orlando before any other locations simply because those are the only locations that are legally allowed to operate with a large enough capacity to market test the changes before they are made permanent, company-wide. This is standard practice for any modern, ethical business. Disney holds itself to a higher standard of service quality, because its American values have allows it to grow to become the industry standard for entertainment worldwide. That is a huge responsibility for any one company. That is why changes in Disney are slow and steady; its so the company can be sure its doing them RIGHT.

      • I wish that was the case. I find a running trend with modern people who don’t know anything, they discredit the past of our lives especially the 20th century. Automotive transport, Fashion, Lifestyle, food god you name it! has all been lied about in our past. Every modernist kid thinks their goal is to run as far away from the stereotypical 1950 as possible, so they constantly think they are the minority. That couldn’t be less true in fact more than the total of 60 percent of Americans now appeal to this liberally spread out agenda-provoked way of living and seeing things. I am a Democrat, and I’m not stupid enough to pretend that we have made change in America, nothing has changed since the 1930’s and 1940’s when I was very much younger. The only things that have changed drastically are the good things, that are now bad. Safety is hideous especially with automobiles, people think their safer now but forget that their comparing a new vehicle to a 50, 60, 70, or 80 year old vehicle in present day. “well ours runs and drives better” yes that makes sense when your comparing a scratched worn 50 year old vase to a newly bought vase. Honestly the idiocy of modern civilians is immeasurable. and now our biggest concern is gender? that wasn’t a concern 20 years ago. When you worry too much about something you make a mountain out of a molehill.

    • Please explain how this is cancel culture. They literally are just making it more inclusive. If anything, it’s the total opposite lol

      • Please explain how this made it more “inclusive”; you just state conclusions without any support.

    • Who exactly is getting “cancelled” by this? The only group I can see who could possibly be unhappy about inclusivity are bigots. 🤷‍♂️

  2. You kidding me!! I’m about to just be a Walt fan instead of a Disney fan from this point on because they are 2 completely different things nowadays.😔

    • You are correct. Walt Disney the man and Disney the company are two entirely separate entities and have been since Roy Disney died. But I will say that both Disney brothers would have been proud of the changes the company is making today.
In fact, Walt would be livid that the company does things as slow as it does in 2021. His goal was to ensure that every single human being who stepped foot onto Main Street, USA felt as at home and welcomed as he did when he walked into his own home in rural America. Walter Elias Disney held no prejudice in his heart and contested his own biases til the day he died. If you cannot do the same, then you need to know that he would not have welcomed you at the ticket booth.

  3. When I first read the title, I thought they removed all reference to the viewers from the show, which I would not have been a fan of. But am glad to hear that the ladies/gents/boys/girls intro has been replaced, not removed altogether.

I’m sure that people will take issue with this, like they seem to do with anything posted on wdwnt. Change isn’t bad — imagine if you were one of the ones “excluded” from the original intro, and now Disney has taken actions to include you. What harm is there in that? The only issue that I could see is that people would not like that Disney is being inclusive to all, which is likely the case for some. Same people who don’t like equality in other realms of society.

    • So I guess it’s also time to remove Men’s and Women’s from the restrooms too? Just a free for all? After all, we wouldn’t want anyone to feel excluded.

    • I hope they keep the bathrooms labeled. I understand having Men/Women or Ladies/Gentlemen on the bathroom can be gender exclusive but I would like to know which bathroom to use for I identify as a male. Thank you

      • I do not think Disney has any plans on making large, co-ed bathrooms, as it would undoubtedly lead to confusion on the part of most guests. Changing the intro to a firework show, however, has little to no effect on any guest in the parks. If anything, the changed intro means less of a wait for the start of the show.

Nonetheless, no where in this article or in my comment mentions bathrooms, so it seems like you are just trying to stir up a fuss. If you are concerned about people using the bathrooms aligning with their gender identity, no need to worry — I can guarantee that guests already do that, and have been doing so for a long time.

        • No he makes a good point.
To be inclusive…and using the logic of this crap welcome message….then all restrooms should just say All Guests!

          • I think you are missing the point of inclusivity — being inclusive mean including everyone, which (I’ll say, like I’ve said before) DISNEY felt like they were not achieving through their show intro. The bathrooms offer amenities for all people, no matter their gender identity. That’s why there are multiple types of them.

Reminder to all, Disney is a private corporation and can do whatever the heck they please with their parks, movies, streaming platforms, and firework show intros.

    • I was traveling by plane yesterday I “identified” myself as a pilot but the crew didn’t allow me to fly the plane. I am hurt.

      • Are you really? Or are you just trying to use a made up straw man arguement to make a supercilious point?

        • How is her argument invalid? By your logic, if folks can choose to be male or female, regardless of science, then I can transition to a 20 year old South Korean, if I so choose. You have no answer, so you fall back on the “straw man” argument, which by the way failed to include any transitioning “straw people” or “straw dreamers”. Shame on you, bigot.

  4. Keep it up, Disney, and you’ll lose your loyal customer base. This madness has to stop.
I’m almost to the point of no return now.

      • They will miss their money it all adds up. Look at the NBA, MLB, Coca-Cola etc. Their ratings and sales slipped big time because they went woke. You may not agree with this person but it’s not just one.

      • look at how many negative down votes you have…YOU are the minority…nuff said

        • Yes, because the opinions of a few dozen Disney fans is a total arbiter of the public at large. Look at all the responses, they’ve swung far into the side of inclusion. Sorry if that upsets you.

    • Maybe, just maybe, to solve this mess, Disney could just use the intro to welcome Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, and all the rest of you. How’s that for “inclusivity”. Peace.

  5. Good grief! This world is going to hell in a hand basket. Can’t even say “ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” without someone getting butt hurt.

      • Exactly. Imagine if Disney changed the greeting to actually include non-binary people rather than just removing the “Ladies and Gentlemen…” part. If anything, this is Disney trying to have their cake and eat it too. It makes it seem they are being progressive to those who know what it used to say, while also still being completely neutral to anyone who hears it for the first time. The people in these comments are kidding themselves if they think Disney has not done the market research to determine the benefit of these changes. A mega-corporation like Disney only does what is best for its overall image and profit.

  6. What does this mean for bathrooms though? Will they remove Men/Women and Ladies/Gentlemen from the signs? I am unsure what to do if they do and replace that with dreamers.

    • Are you equating an announcement before a piece of entertainment with a place to poop? I am unsure what your logic is.

    • This is not “inclusiveness”….who cares if people are gay or what the point is there doesn’t have to be a whole show put on about it. Being gay now is treated like some kind of big fashion statement and it’s not. It’s someone’s sexuality that’s all…there’s male and female in this world, that’s it…men can pretend to be women and vice versa but there’s still only 2 sexes like there has been since the beginning of humanity…Disney and other woke businesses need to wake up and realize woke people are never satisfied. Can’t keep giving in bc after 1 thing then it’s something else to the point where there’s no sense being made at all.

      • Hey, before you go on discussing anymore, I’d recommend you read a bit about the LGBTQ+ community. Cuz clearly you do not know what you are discussing.

The change made to the intro has NOTHING, literally ZERO, to do with sexuality. Being gay is not a gender. I do not know how simple I can make it.

There are more genders then male & female. That is what the change is related to. Gender, not sexuality.

      • Speaking as a gay man, I grew up in a part of the world that taught me I needed to not only hide who I am but also hate who I am. You are speaking for a community in which you know nothing about. Is there an element of showiness? Sure, but what you are really seeing are people who only just in the past few years are finally feeling they can openly be themselves. We have always been around you, but we now feel more confident to not have to hide. I guarantee you that it is only going to grow from here.

      • I totally agree…enough is enough.
These “woke” people need to relax and just enjoy life. No need to overanalyze and get emotional over every little aspect of life.

  7. I hope they do change the bathrooms to non gender exclusive so maybe the rude, close minded people will stay out of the parks lol

      • It’s funny to me that the typical, tired response to being called closed-minded when it comes to inclusivity changes like this is basically saying, “No you’re closed-minded for not accepting my view!” As if your view of the world doesn’t include discrediting the very existence of a significant group of people. What do you expect people’s response to be when you actively post content on the internet that attacks not only them but people they love? And if your response includes “It’s only a very small percentage of people”, then perhaps you need to look at it from the perspective of those affected. Since inclusivity doesn’t even have to apply strictly to non-binary people, that group of people who benefit from it widens drastically. Could you imagine how you would feel if the world you were born into didn’t view you as valid or “normal”? A tiny change like this to help someone feel less excluded is such an incredibly small price to pay.

  8. I don’tunderstand why everyone is so upset that they are being inclusive. Honestly if this article didn’t exist, would you have even noticed it changed?

Everyone’s triggered over everything that has to do with inclusivity… if it doesn’t cause you harm, why get angry?

  9. iam sorry but, if you are too confused to figure out what you are then you are too confused to tell others what they must think. get over yourselves already! and no, i am not part of the confused “woke” crowd.

    • Who exactly is confused here? Every trans and non-binary person I know is very aware of who they are. The confusion usually comes from cisgendered people who choose to not understand.

    • This comment reads as if you know exactly how the nearly 8 billion people in the world all need to think or feel. You are looking at it from the perspective of someone who thinks their way of life is the only one rather than coming to the conclusion that there are many paths. The sheer enormity of the human experience cannot be bound to a singular way of life. However, a life path that includes discrediting/hating people trying to be their true selves because you do not understand them (non-binary, LGBTQ+, people of color, etc), is not a path that needs to be perpetuated.

  10. If this triggers you, stay home. Seriously, the snowflake is strong in so many of you! Bless your hearts.

  11. Disney has gone too far this time. I am deeply offended that people can no longer be referred to as Ladies and Gentlemen and Boys and Girls

    • Who said that? I think you are getting upset for literally no reason. If including all guests is something you are against, you may need to find another place to vacation. May I suggest rural Alabama?

      • You understand the hypocrisy of your statement, right? You’ve commented many times on here, vouching for “inclusion” and in the same breath marginalize an entire state off of a perceived perception of intolerance. That’s illogical and very close-minded. I reject your position.

      • I think you’re missing the point of what a lot of people feel. I personally respect the rights of all these people. However that works both ways. So does respect. I also want to say I like the new greeting. However the old one doesn’t offend anyone. Whatever you identify as you were still born male or female (with a small trans portion of being born with both). It’s science. You have those body parts. The part of society that is picking and choosing science is going to dangerous places. It would be never ending. At times I feel like I’m wrong for wanting to simply identify as a woman/mom/she. The fringe can be loud and irrational. Wanting complete inclusion actually starts to excludes others and becomes a vicious cycle of we don’t care how you feel back and forth. I wish there could be a happy medium. However no one is ever happy and keeps pushing. As I said though, I like the new greeting. I feel like Disney is a place for dreaming and see it that way. I think you have to respect others see their identity being erased and just don’t understand. It will take some people more time. Just as Non binary and others want respect too. It’s all perspective.

        • I’m well aware of the point people are trying to make here. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community I’ve dealt with it my entire life. How exactly does this change make anyone feel like they’re being erased? That make zero sense. I have no respect for those who exclude people for the way they were born. Period.

    • Are you really? Or are you just saying that to belittle someone different from you? It’s a fair question…

  12. I am all for making things all-inclusive and at WDW. However, it is not. I am Kosher, and I have yet to see real fresh kosher table service that is not a ‘tv dinner’ I was very disheartened to find that even in EPCOT, the Jewish-style food area had little or no kosher selections.

  13. The easy fix would be to just say “everyone” or “all of our guests.” Those include….
    Everyone! Easy peasy.

  14. Hahaha! The fake outrage in these comments is hilarious! Disney is a big corporation that is interested in one thing and one thing only. Money$$$. Being more inclusive will bring in that money and if you’re offended by something so insignificant as the greeting for a parade then you have other problems to worry about and probably shouldn’t be at any Disney park.

    • That would have been a good idea! But the change was likely written to include age because Walt Disney did not believe you need to be of any specific class or age to feel welcome in his Dream.

  15. Is there anything people dont get offended by now? Its just a phrase, relax. If youre getting offended by a simple phrase, you need help, a hobby or a hug, but get over yourself

  16. Anyone who cares about this one way or the other needs to find a hobby. Might I recommend watching True Detective on HBO Max? It is the best show you haven’t watched yet (and if you have then you know what I’m talking about). Each season is independent of the others so feel free to start with which ever sounds most interesting (they are all great). I know it is a better use of your time than giving a crud about announcements at rip off land.

    • Some of those “creepy people,” are the exact same cast who work their tails off to serve you the highest quality of customer service and entertainment on this Earth. Disney Cast are hard working and loyal people, we deserve to be represented equally in the company we provide profit for. If you disagree, my advice would be to not confide your opinions with the cast during your stay/visit and/or don’t visit the parks. We will always provide you with high quality service, but every individual chooses what their “best work,” is worth based not only on their pay, but the types of people they’re serving.

  17. To everyone debating in the comments, take some insight from a longtime cast member; Disclaimer- I am not an official representative of, nor am I currently financially reliant on Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts but I AM a currently employed by WDW-PR and have worked for them for nearly 5 years consecutively and I have lived in Florida for 21.

This is not an attempt to pander to a liberal audience. As a smart consumer, one has to recognize when they are being sold an idea or an idea is being implemented by a company because it is what that company believes is a morally correct standard. Disney is an American company. It was founded and built using the blood, sweat, and tears of hardworking Americans like myself and my family before me who “developed” the state of Florida into the tourist trap it is today.

Disney is a good company to work for because it is big enough to learn from its international components. It remains successful because it recognizes the debt it owes to its most devoted staff aka, the cast. Disney’s core value as a company is not to gain wealth, it is to provide authentic, ethical entertainment to the people of the world. ALL people. And to do that, Disney always has been and always will be as culturally sensitive as the world decides it needs to be. Disney is still learning, just like we all are, and big changes like this (that cost a lot of money and take a lot of effort to implement) take time to do properly.

Tokyo and Orlando are the only Disney Parks’ locations that are open to the public at a high capacity. That is why they have been the first to implement these changes. It is not because of conspiracies or lack of effort. Its because doing whats right is not always what is easy and companies with crooked values, do not survive in any market.

  18. Sounds like the kind of Disneyesque phrase the company could have used at any time in its history to appropriate effect. If the original intro from day one had always been “Dreamers of all ages”, would anyone even care? In fact, if the headline of this article had simply said “Disney Changes Opening Intro to Magic Kingdom Fireworks” without mentioning the presumed reason for the change, I wonder if it would’ve generated this many comments.

  19. I’m headed there with the family late July, and sad to say it’ll be my last time.
They don’t have my value’s which is most people’s value’s. They only cater to those on the extreme and they are the minority.
    Get woke become broke!!

    • Disney is an American company who’s Parks and Resorts only operate in countries that have a free, open market. If the company makes a choice to implement changes in its parks it is for the reason that the people who work, live, and spend their income in that area (in this instance, Tokyo and Orlando) have expressed that they will not continue to support ANY company who develops its land without including equal and fair representation to them. This change is the textbook definition of American Freedom and if you take issue with that, perhaps you should reevaluate where your loyalties lie; Corporate America or the American People?

  20. It’s so sad to see how backwards and hateful Disney fans can be. As someone who doesn’t identify as a boy or girl it is very disheartening to feel so unwelcome. Also as someone who has woven Disney into their personality it hurts in a different way that people are so stuck to the old ways. Leave it to boomers to ruin the progress disney continues to make. So much for a better tomorrow, right?

    • Also very sad to see how close-minded, accusatory & hateful you are towards “boomers” as a whole. Perhaps approaching others – regardless of age – with an open mind and heart could bridge the gap…but I’m probably asking for too much decency here.

      • Respectfully, Ma’am, the hard working American citizens who put their labor and money into the Parks in Orlando, deserve to be represented in the greeting, as well. Times are changing; Walt founded this company on that sentiment and refusing to accept changes that accommodate ALL cast and guests is the exact kind of change Mr. Disney would have wanted for his dream. His living family are appalled by how slow the company is to implement these changes and it is out-dated opinions like the ones in this comment section that cause that change to take so long. This is a new century, the company was founded on making changes to meet the times and if you cannot adjust with those changes, the brothers & family who built this company would be disappointed to see you attending, anyway.

  21. These comments are a dumpster fire. So disappointed in Disney fan community right now. You all need to take a real close look at yourselves and consider being better human beings.

    • Just because you disagree with the vast majority doesn’t make it a dumpster fire.

You also need to take a look at yourself and consider the fact a billion dollar company is pandering to this community in the name of profit is disgusting and deplorable. But this certain community is easily duped it seems.

  22. This seems so unnecessary. If sensitive people cannot handle regular things like a park announcement then stay home in their safe little bubble.

  23. I am getting so sick of Disney at this point with all the ridiculous WOKENESS. My family has gone to disney world every year since 2008, but they won’t be getting any more of our money. The only way to stop nonsense is to hit them in their bank account!

  24. Don’t let the rhetoric fool you. This is anything but inclusive, left extremists have their own dog whistles to rally around.

  25. Just stop with all the changes!!! If you’re offended by the term “ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” then you have a severe mental problem. Is WDW going to keep changing every little thing due to a small fraction of people getting triggered???
