As COVID-19 health and safety measures were removed, the interactive elements of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad queue at Magic Kingdom were uncovered back in June. However, they remained turned off for over a month. As of this week, guests can once again trigger explosions and play small games as they wait to ride.

Though the “explosives” aren’t actually anywhere near guests, there are fun warning signs when approaching them.

There are instructions on how to operate the machines posted throughout the explosives area.

The explosives game consists of a crank and a plunger handle.

It may take a moment for the explosive to charge up. Once the dial points to “crank”, it’s ready for use.

Guests can then crank until the machine is charged, and then move to the handle.

You can then lift and push down to trigger an explosion on the ride.

The next section of the queue has these large machines. We noticed at least one of them missing the handle of its crank.

But most of them were in working order.

Here, guests can turn the crank and look through the rectangular window on the left.

You might catch a glimpse of a “canary in a coal mine.”

Finally, guests can turn cranks on these large fan-like machines to see moving images.
