The new daytime show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney KiteTails, soft opened today with two versions of the show: “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book”. Unfortunately, the first performance of “The Lion King” was suddenly canceled after a jet ski flipped over during the show.
The jet skis pull the largest kites, including inflatable characters. In the video below, you can see the jet ski in question near the stands. It had just finished pulling the baby Simba inflatable kite, which lands off mark in the water. The jet ski then flips over.
Two jet skis were in the midst of pulling other kites at the time. The jet skier immediately emerged from the water and appeared to be unharmed. They can be seen in the water in the video below.
The performance was abruptly ended, and a generic ending announcement was played. An announcement stating the performance had been canceled then played. Cast Members indicated they were not sure if performances of “The Lion King” show would resume today, but they were preparing to go on with “The Jungle Book” version.
