REVIEW: Holiday Elf Dome Returns to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

The slightly terrifying Holiday Elf Dome cake has made its return to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort this year.

The cake is a small dome shape sitting flat on a disc and built to look like a little tiny elf head. Red and green frosting line the bottom to look like a striped scarf. The elf’s skin is constructed out of a thin layer of white chocolate with milk chocolate and frosting to make eyes, ears, a nose, a mouth, and little sideburns. On top of his head, there is a little red and green striped hat made of the same frosting as the scarf border.

One of the first things we noticed about this cupcake is that the white chocolate face was immediately sweating once it came out of the cooler. The mild sweating on this cupcake made it seem kind of alive and made it even more terrifying than before. It’s not very appetizing…

We put an end to his misery and cut him open to see the inside — and it just looks like a regular vanilla cake. No special fillings or extra icing inside.

After digging in, we couldn’t really tell where the eggnog flavor was supposed to be. It tasted like a regular vanilla cupcake with a little bit of fall spice to it. Overall, the cupcake itself is tasty, but it does not have the flavor that is expected with the description.

The frosting was incredibly sweet and gets everywhere. This cupcake definitely requires a larger plate, a fork, and several napkins.

He died a brutal death and looks even worse after a few bites than he does straight out of the case.

You can find this dome cake and try it for yourself at Capt. Cook’s in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
