Warner Bros. ‘Goonies’ Inspired TV Series Moving to Disney+

Disney+ is redeveloping “Our Time,” a newly titled series from Warner Bros. TV inspired by “The Goonies.”

The previously untitled project is about a teacher who helps her students re-create “The Goonies” shot-for-shot. It was originally developed for Fox, but they passed on the pilot, which was adapted by writer Sarah Watson.

Clancy Collins White, executive VP and head of development at Warner Bros. TV, said, “Sarah worked nonstop to deliver this incredible script, we had our table read, and then the world shut down for COVID. So we came back many months later and finished the beautiful pilot, and it was an incredible cast, but unfortunately a little bit too young for Fox. And so we immediately swung into high gear and hit the town with it. We did not yet have anything in development at Disney+. It’s been another example of being able to carve a pathway where there wasn’t one by virtue of a great story, a great pilot, a great series. The deal has taken a while to make, but we’re really excited to be moving forward.”

Executive producers other than Watson include Gail Berman and Hend Bahdady from The Jackal Group, Lauren Shuler Donner and the late Richard Donner (who directed the original “Goonies” and passed away after the pilot was developed) of The Donners’ Company, and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Amblin TV.

  1. what? why would Disney trust Warner Bros? wasn’t Warner Bros the reason why Disney stopped making 2d animated films after Winnie The Pooh (2011)?
