California Artisan Cheese Selection: Habanero Jack and TomaProvence – $8.50
Guests receive a prepackaged cheese plate that seems like it could be found upon arrival in a guest room at any bed and breakfast in wine country.
While the appearance is underwhelming and a plain old cheese plate seems rather mundane alongside so many inventive unique dishes, its simplicity is really what sells this.
Two cheeses are offered: a Vella Cheese Company Habanero Jack and a Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company Tomaprovence.
The Point Reyes cheese was spectacular and exactly what we were looking for, with subtle nutty notes and strong flavors of sage or rosemary intermixed within the cheese.
The Habanero Jack cheese was still good, but less impressive than the Point Reyes. The Habanero brings a good amount of spice, but isn’t overwhelming.
The cheese itself was only okay. It’s a soft cheese, and warming in the Southern California sun doesn’t do it any favors.
Overall, we enjoyed this cheese plate far more than we thought, and we will definitely return to pair this with a glass of wine from the booth to maximize our enjoyment in the future.
Chocolate Hazelnut Crunch – $6.50
This is hands down one of the best desserts we’ve ever had! Not only does it outshine nearly everything at the Festival, it would stand up to many of the other delicious desserts served elsewhere on property.
It’s soft and delicate, yet hides an explosion of flavor from the chocolate and the subtle earthiness of the hazelnut.
The gooey chocolate center brings a difference in texture and in flavor which keeps interesting. Overall, this is one of the best foods we’ve had in any food festival!
Green Apple & Lychee Mimosa – $15
The Apple was excellent and tasted the most like a traditional mimosa.
We couldn’t pick out the lychee flavor, but this drink was simple and delicious nonetheless.
Passion Fruit & Banana Mimosa – $15
The banana mimosa had a light banana flavor with hints of passion fruit that mixed well with the champagne.
This was our favorite of the three, and we highly recommend it.
Cherry, Yuzu & Ginger Mimosa – $15
The cherry ginger yuzu mimosa was our least favorite.
We found the gin to be overpowering. We couldn’t pick out the cherry, the ginger, or the champagne.
With so many different wine options, it may be difficult to try all of these at once! But the Food & Wine Festival runs from March 4th to April 26th this year, so that should give you enough time to try them all.
