The teaser trailer for “Avatar: The Way of Water” reached 148.6 million views in its first 24 hours online. 23 million views were from China alone.

The teaser played in theaters in front of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” over the weekend before being posted online Monday.

The views beat out the first teaser for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” which reached 112.4 million on its first day. It also beats the 116.8 million views the “Black Widow” teaser reached. It falls behind the teaser for “F9: The Fast Saga,” which reached 202.7 million views.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” will be released in theaters on December 16, 2022.
