REVIEW: ManGLOW Chicken and Waffles & Alohilohi Tuna Poke Bowl Take the Cake While Cake Shake Ironically Disappoints During H2O Glow After Hours at Typhoon Lagoon

We explored H2O Glow: After Hours event at Typhoon Lagoon and found the best (and worst) food options from Leaning Palms. After hours of soaking in the setting sun and splashing in the wave pool, we made our way over to cabana restaurant for a bite to eat.

Alohilohi Tuna Poke Bowl – $11.99

Ponzu-marinated Sashimi Tuna, Lemon Sushi Rice, Seaweed Salad, Pickled Vegetables, Edamame, Avocado, Wasabi Peas, and Spicy Mayo.

Tuna Poke Typhoon Lagoon

Sashimi quality tuna in a water park is a welcome surprise! Under the fresh tuna and crisp edamame is a hefty amount of white rice, wakame, red and green peppers. The creamy, drizzled sauce is a bit spicy but not too much to ruin the flavor of the bowl. This is certainly the best food we’ve ever had at a water park.

ManGLOW Barbecued Chicken and Waffles – $11.49

Mango Barbecued Chicken Wings and Rainbow Mickey Waffles with Purple Cabbage Slaw, Mango Chutney, and Siracha Honey Butter.

The Waffles and Wings are fantastic. The wings are cooked to perfection with a crispy exterior and a delicious, tender interior. The wing sauce balances the savory meal with its sweet, mango flavor. However, it’s the sriracha honey butter that makes the dish outstanding. The doughy Mickey waffles are well accented by the spicy, sweet sauce.

H2O Cake Shake – $10.99

Purple Vanilla Milk Shake topped with a Chocolate-dipped Italian Crème Bundt cake, Whipped Cream and Rainbow Sprinkles.

Unfortunately, where the Poke Bowl and Chicken Waffles succeeded, the Cake Shake failed. The shake does not include the medallion featured on the menu and is overall quite basic for Disney. The Bundt cake is dry and sugary, failing to add a much needed touch of salt to this already overly sweet drink. The drink itself is nothing more than a simple vanilla shake. Not our favorite item on the menu, and definitely worth passing.

Overall, the food alone warrants a visit to Typhoon Lagoon’s H2O Glow: After Hours event. While the Cake Shake failed to take the cake, the Poke Bowl and Chicken and Waffles are worth every penny.
