Salt & Straw in Disney Springs is celebrating spooky season with a new “Ice Scream” series for the month of October.
This month’s limited edition flavors are The Great Candycopia, Don Bugito’s Creepy Crawly Critters, Jack O’Lantern Pumpkin Bread, Black Cat Licorice & Lavender, and Double Bubble Toil & Trouble.
The Great Candycopia
Homemade Kit Kats, Reeses, Snickers, and Heath Bars folded into a diabolically delicious salted butterscotch ice cream
This is hands down the best scoop we’ve ever had at Salt & Straw.
With each bite, you taste all the candies, and none more than the others.
The salted butterscotch ice cream is not over-powering and actually enhances the flavors of the candies. It’s creamy and gives us Butterbeer vibes.
The candies add texture and crunch. It all fits extremely well together. It’s like your trick-or-treat bag in a scoop of ice cream.
We’ll be getting this again and would go out of our way to get our hands on it. However, if you have a peanut or tree nut allergy, don’t get this flavor.
Don Bugito’s Creepy Crawly Critters
Matcha ice cream with toffee-brittle mealworms and chocolate crickets (yes, real bugs!)
This one is crunchy thanks to yes, the real bugs.
The scoop is extremely earthy in flavoring. The matcha ice cream is great. It’s a little grassy with a nutty underdone.
The chocolate-covered crickets taste just like a chocolate piece.
We didn’t get a toffee brittle flavor from the mealworms. We didn’t get any real flavor at all. They do get stuck in your teeth.
This wasn’t terrible and better than you would expect, but it’s not something we would get again. Don’t get this one if you have a shellfish allergy.
Jack O’Lantern Pumpkin Bread
Tender hunks of just-baked pumpkin bread and swaths of whipped cream cheese frosting in a pumpkin-spiced ice cream
This is another fantastic scoop from this month’s limited edition series. It’s a Thanksgiving dessert in a cup.
Pumpkin spice lovers, this one’s for you. The pumpkin bread is moist and full of flavor.
The pumpkin spice ice cream is creamy and the perfect match to the pumpkin bread, of course.
It’s not overly sweet and you only get a hit of sweetness from the cream cheese frosting. We would get this scoop again, too.
Black Cat Licorice & Lavender
A silky, pitch-dark anise and fennel caramel with luminous salted lavender ice cream
We would rather eat more of the ice cream with real bugs than this one.
The lavender is so overpowering. After the third bite, this started to taste like soap.
There is barely a hint of black licorice, but it’s hard to taste anything other than lavender.
It smells like a spa and tastes like one too. This is a pass.
Double Bubble Toil & Trouble (v)
Two spices and three fruits combined in a coconut cream for the perfect concoction that tastes just like bubble gum
The description hits it right on the head. It tastes just like bubble gum. The coconut cream is the consistency of sherbet and you can smell the coconut. The coconut taste comes in at the end.
The chunks in the scoop look and taste like bubble gum. If you love bubble gum, come get this.
It is very sweet, so we recommend getting water or sparkling water to wash it down. As we kept eating, it started to remind us of blue milk from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
This is a great vegan option but nothing will top the rosé and watermelon scoop.
The Candycopia was ultimately the superior scoop this month. The pumpkin bread is a close second, followed by the Double Bubble and Crawly Critters, with the Licorice & Lavender in last place.
