Nearly three years after its last meal was served, construction curtains have been put in place outside the site of the former Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel indicating a replacement may be on the way.

As the Disneyland Hotel was reopening to the public in July 2021, Disney announced the permanent closure of its signature dining experience, Steakhouse 55. While its replacement has not yet been announced, it appears construction is set to begin inside the restaurant.

Steakhouse 55, which brandished the “55” in honor of the 1955 opening of the Disneyland Park, has been closed since 2020 when it was initially shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney has not elaborated on the cause of the restaurant’s closure or what restaurant will be replacing it after the construction.

Disney announced the permanent closure with the release of a statement in the summer of 2021, stating: “At this time, there are no plans to reopen Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel. We are exploring options for this location and will update you when we have news to share.” A sign outside the steakhouse stands in front of black construction curtains. It reads, “Imagineering in Progress.”

While a replacement has not yet been announced, we’re hopeful that the first sight of construction may mean an announcement is imminent. Until such a time, guests will be able to dine at the nearby Goofy’s Kitchen or choose from Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill, Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, and the Coffee House.
