The long refurbishment of Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland is finally coming to an end this week, but despite earlier reports, the OC Register has corrected themselves that there are in fact some new and updated scenes in the now-classic Disneyland attraction.
When guests ride the refreshed Indiana Jones Adventure starting on Friday, March 17.
Indiana Jones Adventure previously closed on January 9 for a much-needed refurbishment. Disney had remained cagey about a reopening date for the attraction other than “spring 2023.”
Per the Register, Imagineering “plussed up” the ride with two new digital effects scenes designed to demonstrate the power of Mara, the antagonist deity within the Temple of the Forbidden Eye at the center of the story unfolding in the attraction.
“Our additions to Indiana Jones Adventure add touches of new magic that enhance its already established storyline,” Imagineering executive creative director Kim Irvine said in a statement released by Disneyland. “Mara taunts guests even further with a powerful, electric-like energy and frenetic apparitions. This force of Mara turns a possible passageway escape into a rubble of dust.”
According to Brady MacDonald, no new storylines were introduced into the Disneyland attraction from the upcoming “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” film debuting in theaters in June, despite months of ongoing rumors.
As we near the ride’s 30th anniversary, having opened in 1995, you can check out a full history of the Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland and its cousin at Tokyo DisneySea!
