Northern Bloom, the outdoor kitchen that represents our neighbors to the north, Canada has returned for the 2023 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival. Seared Scallops with French Green Beans, Butter Potatoes, Brown Butter Vinaigrette and Neuske’s Applewood-Smoked Bacon – $7.50
Disney has scallops down to an art, which is surprising because they can be very temperamental (the scallops, not Disney). These were wonderfully cooked to be very smooth and buttery with just a slight bit of crunch from the bacon exterior. The green beans were cooked well and were complimented by the vinaigrette. Our only complaint would be the portion size seemed small but this could be first day jitters.
Beef Tenderloin Tips, Mushroom Bordelaise Sauce and Whipped Potatoes with Garden Vegetables – $7.00
Two beef tenderloin tips served on a bed of whipped potatoes and adorned with carrots. Overall the whipped potatoes and vegetables were perfectly done, however the beef was overcooked and chewy. There’s a lot of potential for this item with the accompaniments as well as the savory sauce, but it really depends on the cut of beef you get.
*NEW* Chocolate Maple Whisky Cake – $4.50
There’s a lot happening here. The chocolate on top tastes like the chocolate topping of a Krispy Kreme donut.
The cake is super dense and has a caramel flavoring. We feel like it needs a scoop of ice cream.
We could definitely taste the whiskey on the back end, with deep rich chocolate hitting us first. The icing is fresh and light but there needs to be more cream on top.
The cream has a maple flavor but is drowned out by everything else.
*NEW* Collective Arts Brewing Honey Lager, Hamilton, Ontario (5.0% ABV) – $5.50 for 6 oz. $9.50 for 12 oz.
From Untappd: “A nod to Hamilton Breweries of yesteryear, this golden lager is crowned with a fluffy white head and is made with local honey and European pilsner malt. With light floral aromas of honeysuckle, this brew finishes with that perfect snappy & dry crisp. This Lager will quench your thirst for the perfect brew as the summer just starts to fade out.”
Glutenberg Blonde Ale, Montreal, Quebec (4.5% ABV) – $5.50 for 6 oz. $9.50 for 12 oz.
From Glutenberg: “Airy and lemony, its golden color reveals floral and slightly herbaceous notes, giving way to a dry and tasty finish.” The brewery also notes that it has aromas of “floral hops, white pepper, pears and fennel,” and flavors of “white pepper, green tea and lemon peel.”
81Bay Brewing Apricot with Maple Syrup, Tampa, FL (5.0% ABV) – $5.50 for 6 oz. $9.50 for 12 oz.
From correspondence with 81Bay Brewing, their beer, also known as Apricot Maple Blonde Ale, is an “award winning blonde ale aged on apricots with hints of maple syrup.”
Maple Popcorn Shake with Tap 357 Maple Rye Whisky ($31/bottle) – $13.00
A very thick and creamy shake that contains a healthy pour of whisky. We watched the Cast Member pour half the shake into a glass, add the whisky, mix it up, and proceed to finish filling the glass with the shake. It’s the little difference of the pre-stir that helps make this shake stand out among the other alcoholic beverages of the festival. It’s topped with a few piece of maple popcorn that don’t go soggy in the shake. While the price tag is a bit high, we feel it’s validated because of the boozy quality of the beverage and maple flavor profile of the creamy shake. Recommended.
