By now you’ve probably heard that Tokyo Disney Resort is kicking off its 40th Anniversary “Dream-Go-Round” celebration, which also includes the new “Disney Harmony in Color” daytime parade. But one of the other big features of the celebration is the return of decor on Cinderella Castle at the center of Tokyo Disneyland!

The castle is only decorated from the front two turrets down. Three banners each hang from the left and right, while a 40 medallion is perched at the center.

The banners on both sides show line art of attractions around Tokyo Disneyland, much of which was originally developed for the 20th Anniversary in 2003. On the right side of the castle we see Big Thunder Mountain, Cinderella Castle, “it’s a small world,” Beaver Brothers Explorer Canoes, Space Mountain, Mickey’s House, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Atop the bunting in each half-circle is Tinker Bell. Shields with the “40” logo top bunting, which incidentally is the same mold used in the 50th Anniversary castle decor at Walt Disney World.

The 40 is written on a large medallion at the center, hanging just below the castle balcony. It transitions in a gradient from yellow to purple-pink and finally blue. A Mickey silhouette tops the medallion.

On the left are Tokyo DisneySea areas in the same style, including Mount Prometheus, Port Discovery, Arabian Coast, and Mediterranean Harbor.

Cinderella Castle at Night

At night, the castle is lit in dark purple except on the balcony and the tallest tower. Traditionally the castle is lit in a lighter purple and blue with a pink balcony, making this a special pattern exclusively for the 40th Anniversary.

The 40 is lit up from inside, and lights shimmer on its border. Lights are also present on the ornamentation above the banners, as well as lining the banners themselves.

Inside the banners, more fiber optics bring them to life. They have two patterns — one shimmering all at once, and one with pixie dust trails running back and forth across the two banners.

You can get a better look at the nighttime light patterns via our Tweet above.

The Tokyo Disney Resort 40th Anniversary “Dream-Go-Round” celebration officially kicks off Saturday, April 15, and runs through March 31, 2024. Plenty of commemorative food and merchandise are already available to celebrate 40 years of Tokyo Disneyland. But the biggest addition by far is the new “Disney Harmony in Color” daytime parade, as is tradition with a Tokyo anniversary celebration.
