Illumination’s Minion Land at Universal Orlando Resort will be opening this summer with a variety of new attractions and eateries for guests. Take a look at the newly released concept art below.
According to the official release on Universal’s site, guests will be able to “eat, laugh, and cause mischief with Illumination’s Minions.”
The land will take over Production Central, transforming it into Illumination Avenue with a new Minion Cafe (replacing the former Universal Studios’ Classic Monsters Cafe) and “other surprises inspired by popular characters from Illumination’s blockbuster franchises.”
Illumination’s Minion Land Attractions
Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast
Belle Bottom, Jean Clawed, and the other members of the Vicious 6 will join guests aboard Illumination’s Minions at Villain-Con. Visitors will “blast their way to supervillain stardom.”
Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast is a moving walkway stand-through shooting attraction. The attraction was developed in partnership between Universal’s award-winning creative team and the filmmakers from Illumination. This interactive blaster game experience invites guests to compete against each other in hopes to join the franchise’s most dastardly supervillains.
Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast will use screen technology, gaming interactivity and physical sets to create a unique, game-based adventure. Guests will put their villainous skills to the test in these immersive environments, where they’ll spot nefarious evil-doers and mischievous Minions from Illumination’s films. The attraction promises to allow guests to interact with these characters in a whole new way.
The story behind the attraction is that guests are transported to Villain-Con: the biggest criminal convention on the planet. Here, they are instructed to take part in a competition to see if they have what it takes to become the newest member of The Vicious 6. Guests will then grab an interactive blaster and step onto a motion-based pathway to start blasting.
They’ll move through several scenes where they earn points by shooting at a variety of items and causing as much destruction as possible.
This attraction is in the old Shrek-4D ride building, and is a permanent replacement. Take a look at our transformation video below.
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
In this pre-existing attraction, join Gru, his daughters, and the Minions on a thrilling ride in Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. This visual adventure is a family-friendly attraction where guests are seated in ride vehicles that move along with a Minions animation made specially for the venue.
Illumination’s Minion Land Eateries
Illumination’s Minions Café
Guests will also be able to visit the new Illumination’s Minion Café for a bite to eat. The Minions have been hard at work setting up this venue, as we have covered previously. This is the first time we’ve been able to see full concept art for the venue’s façade.
Bake My Day Eatery
In addition, guests can delight in a sweet treat at Bake My Day. This location will have a giant pink cupcake atop the building, making it visible throughout the land. The announcement for available treats at this location include cupcakes, macarons, and s’mores. This venue will also feature a selection of Minion-inspired merchandise, including apparel, plush, drinkware, accessories, keychains, and more.
Freeze Ray Pops will also be available as a dining location for visitors to enjoy a dessert. The available treats here include a variety of colorful popsicles inspired by Gru, the Minions and Vector. Beverages will also be available.
Pop-A-Nana Popcorn
When the land opens, guests will be able to find the fan-favorite banana popcorn at Pop-A-Nana Popcorn. Minions’-themed popcorn buckets will also be available at this location. Below are images from Universal Studios Japan.
Both sweet and savory popcorn options will be available.
Illumination’s Minion Land Shopping Venues
Three new shopping venues will also be opening for guests in this land. Evil Stuff and Super Silly Stuff will both carry toys, souvenirs, and apparel. In addition, at Illumination Theater guests will be able to take pictures with some of their favorite characters from the films “Despicable Me” and “Sing.”
