Princess Leia Dress, Star-Lord Helmet, Thor Hammer, Harry Potter Costume, and More Film Props Being Auctioned in June

The Hollywood Reporter has shared details on several film props, including a Princess Leia dress worn by Carrie Fisher, that will be auctioned off in late June.

Film Props Auction

AN auction of iconic film props shown for this auction include Star Lord's helmet and Princess Leia's dress.

Over 1,400 items are going up for auction from June 28 through June 30. The Princess Leia dress is the very same worn by Fisher in the final scene of “Star Wars: A New Hope,” when she gives Luke Skywalker and Han Solo medals. The dress’s authenticity was confirmed with screen-matching and it is believed to be the only Leia costume remaining in existence from the original film. It was designed by John Mollo, who won the 1978 Academy Award and Saturn Award for his “Star Wars” costume designs.

The gown has a lower-cut neckline and sleeve drapery. It’s made from a lightweight silk fabric and has a hidden zipper on the side and hook-and-eye fasteners on the shoulder. It’s expected to sell for around $2 million.

The auction, run by Propstore, will be one of the largest memorabilia auctions fpr film props in history. Also up for grabs is the hammer used by Tim Robbins in “Shawshank Redemption,” the Batpod motorcycle used by Christian Bale in “The Dark Knight,” and Star-Lord’s light-up helmet from “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

The two-piece helmet is made of cast urethane resin and has foam and suede padding. It was hand painted with a variety of different finishes to look like metal and “inset with two-toned red on the exterior and blue on the interior, lenses, and applied with grid-patterned acrylic sheets on the front as well as small segments of metal tubing, screws and mesh throughout.” The two pieces are held together with hidden magnets. A 9V battery-operated switch that turns on the LEDs in the lenses and a red LED on the right side is also inside the helmet. It’s marked with stickers as “HERO 3” and intentionally lightly distressed. A tongue piece designed to be concealed has broken off to the front on one side.

Another major piece is this “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” distressed costume with glasses that was worn by Daniel Radcliffe.

The auction also includes Al Pacino’s hand-annotated “Scarface” shooting script, shield used by Brad Pitt as Achilles in “Troy,” a static version of the Spider Head-Thing from “The Thing,” a screen-matched clown doll from “Poltergeist,” Kat Winslet’s sinking coat from “Titanic,” and a costume worn by Harrison Ford in “Blade Runner.”

Propstore is hosting an in-person preview exhibition of 80 lots at their office in Valencia, California by appointment from May 29 to June 30. The actual auction will be held over three days, from June 28 to June 30. The first day will have in-room bidding open to the public at the Petersen Automotive Museum (the current home of the Batpod motorcycle).

Online and telephone bids will also be able to be placed during the whole event.

This auction comes months after another high-profile auction back in March,  “The Art of Disneyland: From Stagecoaches to Monorails… and More,” hosted by Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills, California.. With the frequency and tempo of these auctions seemingly increasing each year, it appears consumer appetite for authentic props and items from iconic franchises is as strong as ever.
