It’s a rough morning for guests hoping to ride some of their favorite attractions early today, as Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan’s Flight, and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover were all temporarily closed at Magic Kingdom this morning. The PeopleMover recently came back to life, and Peter Pan’s Flight may have just returned to operation — but the other three remain in the dark.
Multiple Attractions Struggling & Down at Magic Kingdom
On the My Disney Experience App, starred attractions in the wait times section indicate a ride that is currently not operating or accepting guests in the queue. This morning, a trio of major favorites on the west side of Magic Kingdom are all having a difficult time, it seems.
Fantasyland and Tomorrowland were additionally having their own problems.
Here’s a look at the entrance for each of these attractions this morning. In most cases, it feels like an abandoned ghost town:
It looks like the PeopleMover is operational in person, and will be updated in the app soon.
Peter Pan’s Flight is accepting guests, too, though the queue seems very short — indicating a recent re-opening.
It’s perfectly normal for attractions at Walt Disney World to be temporarily halted for a few minutes or a few hours due to various technical difficulties or other issues, though this coincidence of so many major rides in one park being shuttered at once is quite the sight to behold.
Update: a few minutes after the original posting of this article, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel also joined the list of temporary closures. According to a maintenance Cast Member we spoke to, this is due to new safety protocol for the carousel, in which any sort of noise (such as squeaking) requires maintenance to be called in.
Update 12:15 p.m. ET: The Liberty Square Riverboat is also down, while Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean remain temporarily closed. Prince Charming Regal Carrousel is operational.
Update 12:45 p.m. ET: an apology for the closure of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is now being displayed on My Disney Experience from Magic Kingdom Vice-President Sara Riles. There is no estimated reopening, other than an assurance that Cast Members are working to get this attraction up and running again. No word on Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, or Liberty Square Riverboat.
Update 3:15 p.m. ET: Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean are now operational, though Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Liberty Square Riverboat remain closed — while TRON Lightcycle / Run has joined the list of downed rides.
