Figment’s face adorns the back of the glossy purple bag, with his yellow eyes stitched atop the dark features of his snout. The detailing of his stomach appears at the bottom of the bag in a brighter purple color, and his yellow horns and wings emerge from the top and back of the bag, respectively.

There’s a small purple handle on top of the bag. A Disney Parks/Loungefly emblem that matches the bag in color is stitched on the front of the backpack’s bottom right corner.

The wings are pinned to the glossy back of the backpack, the gloss contrasting with the dark purple straps. Figment appears in an icon at the bottom of the bag, emerging from a yellow gear. His inquisitive look and the lightbulb over his head suggest that he’s perhaps imagining something.

The interior of the bag is lined with black fabric and has an interior pocket. The Figment iconography from the back of the bag repeats throughout the lining, and the negative space is filled with purple and yellow stars.

Figment debuted alongside Dreamfinder as part of Journey into Imagination, a beloved attraction that first opened its doors and guests’ minds in March of 1983, a few months after EPCOT Center’s opening. The ride demonstrated the beauty, power, and wonder of imagination to guests, allowing Figment and Dreamfinder to become pseudo-mascots of the park.

Given EPCOT Center’s original goal of being an education-oriented experience, traditional Disney characters recognizable to parkgoers were not initially used in meet-and-greets or as walk-around attractions. Original characters created for the park were instead used in this role, with Figment and Dreamfinder being two characters that guests could interact with.

Journey Into Imagination closed in 1998, re-opening as Journey into YOUR Imagination in late 1999. The new attraction took on the theming of the Honey, I Shrunk the Audience! show that opened in 1994 and also inhabited the Imagination Pavilion. References to Figment were largely absent in this version of the ride, which closed just two years after its debut.

Figment was re-introduced to the ride in a 2002 retheme, with the ride re-opening as Journey into Imagination with Figment in June of that year. Though the attraction is perhaps not as beloved as it once was, Figment remains an ever-popular icon, consistently appearing in new merchandise.

A new Figment tumbler debuted at EPCOT in early August, this mug releasing just a few weeks after a new Figment-themed MagicBand+ was revealed. There have been Figment shirts, phone cases, and ornaments alongside a litany of other merchandise. Figment-themed popcorn buckets consistently sold out after being introduced at EPCOT for the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts in 2022, and a Seth Rogen-produced film centering around the character is even in the works.
