REVIEW: Trying the Full Menu at Aunt Cass Cafe Featuring Soba Noodle Salad, Sourdough Bread Bowls, Japanese-Style Cheesecake, and More in San Fransokyo Square at Disneyland Resort

Pacific Wharf has been transformed into the “Big Hero 6”-inspired San Fransokyo Square. Several dining venues debuted their new menus earlier this summer, but now that the land is officially opening on August 31, Aunt Cass Cafe has opened for a preview.

The cafe is named after Hiro’s Aunt Cass, who is his guardian. In the comics and animated movie, she does, in fact, run a cafe (though it’s called the Lucky Cat Cafe). According to the theming for San Fransokyo Square, Aunt Cass Cafe is her second location.

The Baymax sipper is also available at Aunt Cass Cafe.

Aunt Cass Cafe replaces Pacific Wharf Cafe at Disney California Adventure.

The interior mostly looks the same, with a big red tube across the ceiling and wood-paneled walls.

There are new menus mounted behind the counter.

Menu boards to the side read “Aunt Cass Café.” This one advertises the Japanese-style Fluffy Cheesecake for $6.99.

Entrées

*NEW* Curry Beef – $12.49

Beef, carrots, potatoes, and onions cooked in classic curry topped with rice, pickled ginger, and green onions served in a Boudin sourdough bread bowl

aunt cass cafe food review 8479

This would be a good dish for the winter. It’s a Japanese curry and definitely has a kick.

aunt cass cafe food review 8484

It’s not a very meaty dish but there are small pieces of beef mixed in with the vegetable chunks. The rice is cooked well.

aunt cass cafe food review 8486

It’s thick and served hot. Curry fans will enjoy it.

aunt cass cafe food review 8488

*NEW* San Fransokyo Clam Chowder – $12.49

Creamy clam chowder with bacon, potatoes, and a hint of white miso served in a Boudin sourdough bread bowl

aunt cass cafe food review 2485

Pacific Wharf Cafe previously served clam chowder, but this is a little different.

aunt cass cafe food review 2486

It has lots of bacon in it, plus the miso flavor, which gives it something different from standard clam chowder.

aunt cass cafe food review 2487

The green onions sprinkled on top add to the flavor, as well.

aunt cass cafe food review 2488

It still has the thick consistency you expect from clam chowder and we’re glad a version of this dish has stuck around.

Creamy Mac & Cheese – $12.49

Creamy Macaroni and Cheese in a Sourdough Bread Bowl

aunt cass cafe food review 8469

This is the same mac and cheese that was previously available and that you can find all over Disney Parks. It’s still a good option.

aunt cass cafe food review 8471

The pasta is creamy and cheesy. It’s well-seasoned. It will make both kids and picky eaters happy.

aunt cass cafe food review 8472

Of course, a giant scoop of carbs served in a bread bowl is a heavy dish, but that’s not always a bad thing.

*NEW* Soba Noodle Salad – $13.99

with tofu, cabbage, edamame, carrots, roasted corn, scallions, and cilantro topped with crispy shallots and sesame ginger dressing

aunt cass cafe food review 2509

Both versions of the soba noodle salad are excellent. The salad is a chilled dish, making it perfect for summer.

aunt cass cafe food review 2512

It’s light and refreshing. The furikake seasoning is the perfect topping.

aunt cass cafe food review 2513

The pickled ginger also adds a nice touch of flavor.

aunt cass cafe food review 2517

This is healthy and delicious.

*NEW* Chilled Shrimp Soba Noodle Salad – $19.99

with tofu, cabbage, edamame, carrots, roasted corn, scallions, and cilantro topped with crispy shallots and sesame ginger dressing

aunt cass cafe food review 8442

The version of the dish with shrimp is just as good. If you want to try the salad and like shrimp, go for this version.

aunt cass cafe food review 8448

We give the soba noodle salads a rating of 10/10.

*NEW* Shrimp Katsu Sandwich – $14.99

Panko-breaded shrimp patty on a potato bun with cabbage slaw, spicy mayo, and katsu sauce served with garlic chips

aunt cass cafe food review 8455

The shrimp katsu sandwich is another solid offering. The bun is lightly toasted, giving it some texture. It holds up all the toppings but is still soft.

aunt cass cafe food review 8459

The patty is lightly fried for some crunch, but there are still giant chunks of shrimp. The sauce has an aioli consistency and pairs well with the shrimp, giving a garlic flavor to everything. The shrimp tastes fresh.

aunt cass cafe food review 2534

It’s a large portion, so easily shareable.

aunt cass cafe food review 8457

The garlic chips are the ones available all over Disneyland Resort and were a bit stale from the heat, so we recommend eating those asap.

aunt cass cafe food review 8462

The whole dish is an 8/10 for us.

Turkey Pesto Club – $13.29

Roasted Turkey Breast, Pesto Aїoli, Havarti, Bacon, Arugula, and Tomato on Herb Foccacia with Potato Chips

aunt cass cafe food review 8508

This is a decent lunch choice. The focaccia bread is great, as is the pesto aioli.

aunt cass cafe food review 8509

Other than that, nothing is too special. It’s pretty much the same sandwich they already had.

aunt cass cafe food review 8510
aunt cass cafe food review 2532

The bacon was also slightly undercooked.

aunt cass cafe food review 8513

Anyone looking for a turkey sandwich should be pleased.

Bakery

Baymax Bread – $11.99

Freshly Baked Sourdough

baymax bread 2745 1

The Baymax bread is also available at the Boudin Bread Cart. It’s the standard Boudin sourdough, just in Baymax form.

Boudin Sourdough – $6.49

Loaf, round, or baguette

Dessert

*NEW* Japanese-style Fluffy Cheesecake – $6.99

aunt cass cafe food review 2477

This is pretty authentic to the typical Japanese-style cheesecake. It’s not sweet. The texture is light and fluffy.

aunt cass cafe food review 2478

The sauce was just drizzled on half of it, leaving the powdered sugar side dry.

aunt cass cafe food review 2483

But this is still a nice dessert that can be shared. We give it a 9/10.

Non-Alcoholic Beverages

*NEW* Honey Lemon-Ade – $6.99

Minute Maid Lemonade Zero Sugar and yuzu purée with passion fruit and strawberry popping spheres (Non-alcoholic)

aunt cass cafe food review 8493

You can definitely taste the honey in this honey lemon-ade. It’s a refreshing and sweet drink.

aunt cass cafe food review 8495

We enjoyed the popping boba, though not everyone will. It adds some texture to the drink.

aunt cass cafe food review 8496

It’s nothing amazing, but good for those looking for something non-alcoholic.

aunt cass cafe food review 8499

*NEW* Specialty Caramel Cream Cold Brew – $6.79

Joffrey’s Coffee Caramel Mudslide Cold Brew topped with house-made sea salt caramel whipped cream (Non-alcoholic)

aunt cass cafe food review 2457

This is one of the better coffee options at Disneyland Resort (but Black Caf is still the best). It’s not sweet at all and has a strong coffee flavor with just a hint of caramel.

aunt cass cafe food review 2458

The foam actually stayed put. But after you take your photos, stir it up, and then you get foam with each sip.

aunt cass cafe food review 2459

This is Joffrey’s Coffee, which some love and some don’t, so take that as you will.

aunt cass cafe food review 2460

The Baymax sticker on the cup also adds to the fun.

Alcoholic Beverages

*NEW* Peach Soju Citrus Cocktail – $16

 Citrus beverage with peach-flavored soju

aunt cass cafe food review 2497

This is an amazing cocktail. it’s peach-forward, but not in a sweet way. It reminds us of a fuzzy navel cocktail, but much less sugary.

aunt cass cafe food review 2500

It finishes with some citrus notes and we didn’t taste the alcohol at all.

aunt cass cafe food review 2501

It’s refreshing on a hot day and we will definitely be coming back for it. 10/10.
