A brand new “Encanto”-inspired cupcake recently debuted at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in celebration of Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month 2023, which is being celebrated throughout Walt Disney World Resort from September 15 through October 15. The new Encanto cupcake is available at Restaurantosaurus in the Dinoland U.S.A. section of the park.

This treat potentially serves as an early homecoming for “Encanto,” as Walt Disney Imagineering is currently exploring the idea of retheming Dinoland U.S.A. as a Tropical Americas-themed land that features the 2021 film as one of its pillar intellectual property tie-ins.

Jokes aside, the cupcake itself is cute. The milk chocolate leaves do effectively replicate plant leaves, and the green pearls, yellow hearts, and piped purple flowers make for an aesthetically pleasing dessert. The cookie featuring Mirabel, Antonio, Pico, and a capybara is also a nice touch.

The pearls and frosting wrap around the back of the cupcake, making for a uniform taste and texture experience.

The taste itself is unfortunately nothing spectacular. The frosting, though decorative, is standard in flavor and abundant in quantity. We like our desserts sweet, but this was too much for us. The milk-chocolate leaves and white-chocolate hearts are good, but again, they add sweetness to a cupcake that is far from lacking in that quality.

The pearls do add a nice crunch and texture, and the vanilla cupcake, while soft, moist, and generally tasty, is really no different than any other vanilla cupcake you would find throughout Walt Disney World Resort. The guava in the dulce de leche in the center does add a much-needed counterpunch to the sweetness, but the dulce de leche it’s paired with takes away from the flavor. We would have preferred a different pairing, and we also would have been fine with the guava filling being the only flavor in the center of the cupcake.

An additional warning: you’ll be wearing this dessert in addition to eating it. It quite easily temporarily stains skin due to all of the food dyes.

This certainly isn’t a bad cupcake, but it’s a good treat with the elements of a great one. Had the cupcake been topped with a bit less frosting and contained a more cohesive filling, we think this would be a must-try, but in its current state, you can probably skip it unless you’re really in the mood.
