*NEW* Poison Apple Macaron -$7.99
Apple-shaped Macaron filled with Salted Caramel and Apple Compote
If we were judging this treat based on looks alone, it would earn a perfect score. The bright green design on the front of the red macaron allows this treat to live up to its “poison apple” name, and the neon frosting in the middle contributes to this dessert’s striking festive appearance.
The Poison Apple Macaron may be a better Halloween decoration than it is a dessert, however. This isn’t to say that it’s bad — it’s just underwhelming, especially when compared to its festive appearance. We picked up no salted caramel flavor whatsoever, and what little apple compote is present is confined to the very center.
Once we got to the center of the treat and tasted its intended flavor — the macaron combined with the frosting and compote — it was delicious. We just had to eat through a lot of frosting to get there. It’s certainly not terrible, it just doesn’t live up to its appearance or overall potential.
*NEW* Pecan Caramel Trifle – $6.99
Layers of Vanilla Bean Diplomat Cream, Brown Sugar Spiced Cake and Candied Pecans in Caramel topped with Chantilly Cream
This is our favorite offering on Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe’s Halloween menu and might be our favorite treat at the cafe in general. The vanilla cream combines with the spiced cake, caramel, and pecans to create an utterly fall flavor that’s perfect for the season.
The textures are complementary, and while the dish certainly is sweet, the flavors are so well-balanced, layered, and prevalent that you momentarily forget just how sweet it is.
If you’re a fan of sweet treats and are able to eat foods containing nuts, we definitely recommend checking this out.
*NEW* Pumpkin Chai Cream Puff – $6.99
Pumpkin-shaped Cream Puff filled with Pumpkin Chai Mousse and White Chocolate Crunchy Pearls
This dessert nails the balance between the pumpkin and chai flavors in the mousse that fills the cream puff’s center. Both flavors are present but neither is overpowering, and you’ll probably enjoy it if you’re a fan of either flavor.
The exterior dough is light and flaky, and we think the decor is especially cute here. It’s also a solid size for the price; it’s certainly not big enough to share but is great for one person. If you like chai and/or pumpkin, this one will probably impress you.
*NEW* Halloween Macaroon – $5.99
Coconut Macaroon with Mini Chocolate Chips, dipped in Chocolate and topped with Sprinkles
The Halloween Macaroon tastes exactly like the famous Matterhorn Macaroon, only dipped in chocolate. If you enjoy the Matterhorn Macaroon and also like the combination of chocolate and coconut flavors, you’ll like this dessert. Otherwise, it’s nothing groundbreaking.
Mickey Bat Cookie – $6.49
Shortbread Bat Cookie dipped in Dark Chocolate with a Vampire Mickey Face
The cookie was your standard shortbread cookie with chocolate frosting, nothing special, but the Mickey face makes it a cute seasonal offering.
