Prince Charming Regal Carrousel

The carrousel is a centerpiece of Fantasyland, located directly behind Cinderella Castle. The carrousel was previously called “Cinderella’s Golden Carousel,” but its long history includes time outside the park in its early years.

The caroussel was built in 1917 and originally stood at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan. It relocated to Irvington, New Jersey, where it called Olympic Park home before it was purchased by The Walt Disney Company in 1967.

Prior to opening, the carrousel was shipped to California, where restoration efforts for the ride included stripping all 90 of the horses and repainting them white, giving each unique details. The paint on the horses includes 23 karat gold leaf, silver, and bronze. The artwork that lines the top of the carrousel feature scenes from the Disney classic film, “Cinderella,” and it was added during this time as well. The ride opened at Walt Disney World on Magic Kingdom’s opening day in 1971.
