New Cast Member costumes made partially of recycled material have debuted at EPCOT. We found Cast Members wearing the new threads at several locations throughout the World Celebration neighborhood of the park on October 1, the 41st anniversary of the grand opening of EPCOT Center.
New EPCOT Cast Member Costumes
The new costumes are primarily a dark shade of gray with some slightly lighter detailing. The left side and sleeve of each shirt features a repeating triangular pattern that replicates the exterior appearance of Spaceship Earth, a 180-foot geosphere that has served as the icon of EPCOT since its 1982 opening.
Each shirt also contains a pop of color along the top of the back, at the underarms, down the central zipper, and at the base of the sleeves. Vibrant shades of green, blue, and purple add a glow to the otherwise dark costumes; the EPCOT logo is printed atop the triangular pattern on the left sleeve.
We saw Cast Members wearing the new attire across World Celebration, which is set to formally open this December. In total, we spotted the updated costumes at the park entrance and its corresponding stroller rental area, the Spaceship Earth queue, Creations Shop at its nearby popcorn stand, Pin Traders – Camera Center, and the Connections Eatery.
The new costumes may not be worn by all Cast Members in World Celebration. Several attractions have exclusive attraction-themed costumes for Cast Members. The costumes for Cast Members at CommuniCore Plaza and CommuniCore Hall have not been revealed.
Cast Members in the World Showcase neighborhood of the park also wear their own neighborhood-specific costumes, with a number of the locations inside the individual Pavilions themselves having their own unique Cast Member costumes. All of the new Cast Member costumes that have been introduced at EPCOT in recent years have been at least partially made from reusable or sustainable materials.
EPCOT Reimagining
Cast member costumes are far from the only recent change made at EPCOT. The park is in the final stages of a years-long reimagining that has ushered in considerable alterations and significant additions since plans were revealed at D23 Expo 2019.
The park was divided into four neighborhoods: World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature, and World Showcase. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, a trackless dark ride that is a clone of a Walt Disney Studios Park attraction, opened in the France Pavilion at World Showcase in 2021 as part of the reimagining. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind debuted in the World Discovery neighborhood in mid-2022. Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is the last major part of the ‘EPCOT reimagining’ and is set to open on October 16.
Zach Riddley, the Imagineer who oversaw the EPCOT reimagining, was recently promoted to Global Creative Strategy Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering.
