The framework for a new covered seating area in Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is nearing completion. Construction in the area began in June when walls went up behind Tamu Tamu Refreshments. They were later extended to block a pathway to the park’s Asia section, but the pathway reopened a few weeks ago.
Harambe Market Construction
In September, we noticed a structure of white pipes behind the construction walls. Earlier this month, a slanted roof was added.
Now there are rows of steel beams across the back of the roof framework.
There is scaffolding within the structure.
Two sets of white poles jut out of the roof in triangular shapes. They could become windows.
More steel beams run down the front of the roof.
The beams on the back and top extend over the edge of the white structure. But most of the beams on the front stop at the triangular pieces.
Disney hasn’t confirmed this will be a seating area, but that’s the prevailing rumor.
If it is a seating area, it will provide some welcome shade to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
With the framework seemingly complete or near completion, we may soon see sheathing and paneling installed on the kiosk.
Harambe
Harambe is the fictional village in the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Here, guests can dine at Harambe Market, Tamu Tamu Refreshments, Zuri’s Sweet Shop, Dawa Bar, Tusker House Restaurant, Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery, and the Harambe Fruit Market. Earlier this year, a new outdoor bar opened in Harambe Market in front of the building that used to serve ribs.
The Harambe Village Acrobats, Kora Tinga Tinga, and Tam Tam Drummers perform daily in Harambe.
Mombasa Marketplace offers authentic African imports like wine, apparel, art, crafts, instruments, and animal toys. Next door, Ziwandi Traders has more traditional Walt Disney World merchandise.
The land’s attractions are “Festival of the Lion King” and Kilimanjaro Safaris.
