Disney+ Cancels ‘The Muppets Mayhem’ After One Season

The latest attempt at a new Muppets series, “The Muppets Mayhem,” has been canceled after one season on Disney+, Variety reports.

The series followed Nora, a young music executive, as she helped The Electric Mayhem record their first album. It starred Lily Singh as Nora Singh, Tahj Mowry as Mayhem fan Moog, Saara Chaudry as Nora’s influencer sister Hannah, and Anders Holm as Nora’s ex-boyfriend JJ. Muppet performers included Matt Vogel as Floyd Pepper, Bill Barretta as Dr. Teeth, Peter Linz as Lips, Dave Goelz as Zoot, David Rudman as Janice, and Eric Jacobson as Animal.

It was co-created by Barretta, Adam F. Goldberg, and Jeff Yorkes. Goldberg and Barretta served as executive producers with Kris Eber, David Lightbody, and Leigh Slaughter. It was produced by ABC Signature and The Muppets Studio.

The 10-episode series debuted with one release on May 10, 2023, rather than the usual episode-per-week schedule most Disney+ series follow.

Disney+ previously released “Muppets Haunted Mansion” in October 2021. “Muppets Now” was a short-lived series that debuted in July 2020. “The Muppets” aired on ABC in 2015 and 2016. The last Muppet feature film was “Muppets Most Wanted” in 2014, a follow-up to “The Muppets” in 2011.

Of these recent attempts to revitalize the franchise, “The Muppets Mayhem” was one of the most well-received, with an 86% Tomatometer and 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, higher than the respective scores for “Muppets Haunted Mansion,” “Muppets Now,” “The Muppets” (2015 series), and “Muppets Most Wanted.”
