“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” season one is inspired by the first book in Rick Riordan’s series, “The Lightning Thief.” The series has not been greenlit for season two, but before the WGA strike, Riordan was working on adapting the second book into a second season.

“The Lightning Thief” was released on June 28, 2005, spawning a franchise of novels that is still ongoing. The original pentalogy consisted of “The Lightning Thief,” “The Sea of Monsters” (2006), “The Titan’s Curse” (2007), “The Battle of the Labyrinth” (2008), and “The Last Olympian” (2009). Percy and his friends also appeared in “The Heroes of Olympus” series, “The Trials of Apollo,” and several short stories.

Riordan wrote two spinoff series about other mythology systems with minor connections to “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” — “Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard” and “The Kane Chronicles.” These led to Rick Riordan Presents, an imprint of Disney-Hyperion that publishes novels utilizing the mythology of various cultures and countries, written by authors other than just Riordan. “Aru Shah and the End of Time” by Roshani Chokshi was the first book published under the imprint, as part of the “Pandava Quintet.”

Riordan recently began writing new books from the point of view of Percy, beginning with “The Chalice of the Gods” released this year.
