At EPCOT, Frozen Ever After recently seemed to be experiencing some kind of dark magic that even Elsa doesn’t have the power to change — technology.

Frozen Ever After Character Faces Malfunction

In the finale sequence of Frozen Ever After, the Anna and Elsa animatronics malfunctioned during a ride, and their faces were replaced with a black screen.

User @cm_brickflips shared the video above on TikTok. In the clip, a caption reads, “Waited 120 minutes for this” with a crying-face emoji. The video shows the “In Summer” end sequence of the ride, in which Olaf sings about summer and Anna and Elsa add comments to help him form his sweltering fantasy.

Though Olaf’s eyes, which utilize the same screen technology, have also gone offline, the blank screen faces of the two sisters contrast most dramatically with their animatronic bodies.

This isn’t the first time that Frozen Ever After at EPCOT has experienced malfunctions related to the screen-based animatronic faces. Back in 2020, the ride reopened following a brief refurbishment, and the sequence with Anna and Kristoff had the princess experiencing momentary blips where her face disappeared.

At Hong Kong Disneyland, the same malfunction will not happen at the new Frozen Ever After, as the characters and their faces are fully animatronic and do not use this same technology. Above, the same sequence is shown with the characters’ physically modeled faces. World of Frozen opens in one week, on November 20.
