Pixar has released a new teaser trailer and poster for “Inside Out 2,” the studio’s next theatrical release that’s set to hit theaters on June 14, 2024. The film is a follow-up to 2015’s “Inside Out,” which was a critical and commercial hit for the animation house.
Pixar Releases ‘Inside Out 2’ Teaser Trailer
The 90-second trailer starts with roughly 20 seconds of footage from the original movie before cutting to The Walt Disney Company and Pixar logos. The trailer then transitions to headquarters, where a blaring alarm has awoken Joy, Fear, Sadness, Anger, and Disgust. A demolition crew of small blue characters enters the command center, breaking a window with a wrecking ball before destroying objects, detonating explosives, and causing general chaos.
After the crew leaves, the five emotions from the original film stand over the control console, which now radiates an orange hue. The audience is then introduced to Anxiety, a new emotion that is the cause of the vibrant console color. The new character says “We wanted to make such a good first impression,” indicating that additional new emotions will be introduced in the film.
The trailer ends with one of the film’s taglines: “The feel everything movie of 2024.”
The alluded-to new emotions are seen on the new poster. Joy, Fear, Sadness, Anger, and Disgust stand on a piece of reflective white flooring that’s being lifted by Anxiety and three other new emotions (the trailer confirms that the other new characters are named Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment).
“Inside Out 2” is directed by Kelsey Mann, who is making her feature directorial debut after previously working in the animation department on Pixar films such as “Onward,” “The Good Dinosaur,” and “Monsters University” as a story supervisor. The film is written by Meg LeFauve, who also penned the screenplay for the original movie.
Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black reprise their roles as Joy, Sadness, and Anger, respectively. Tony Hale will replace Bill Hader as Fear while Liza Lapira will replace Mindy Kaling as Disgust. Maya Hawke, perhaps best known for her role as Robin Buckley in the Netflix series “Stranger Things,” will voice Anxiety.
Pixar has confirmed that “Inside Out 2” will return to the mind of Riley, the protagonist of the 2015 film, who is now a teenager and attempting to work through all of the issues that present themselves during that stage of life.

“Inside Out” was released on June 19, 2015, and was an objective success for Pixar. The film was a hit with both critics and audiences, earning a 98% critics score and 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also performed well at the worldwide box office, earning over $850 million against a reported production budget of $175 million. Pixar confirmed that a sequel was in development in September of 2022.
The franchise has been implemented into Disney’s parks, with the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind opening at Disney California Adventure as part of the Pixar-inspired overhaul of Paradise Pier in 2019. A Joy meet and greet was added to the Imagination! Pavilion in EPCOT in 2020; the character interaction remains open today.
