This past Halfway to the Holidays, Disney Cruise Line announced a new holiday party on deck aboard Disney Cruise Line’s fleet. As Very Merrytime Cruises have begun, we got our first look at Mickey & Minnie’s Holiday Party on the Disney Wish and then again on the Disney Magic.
Before the Show
The stage area is mostly bare in preparation for the show, except for the screens of the stage and small decor additions set far back on the stage.
On the Disney Wish, the screens along the back of the stage are used as a backdrop, adding more festive cheer to the breezy, open-air deck.
On the Magic, a white backdrop featuring simple sketch-like drawings of decorations. A few simple standee trees are also on stage.
Before the show, general holiday preshow music plays over the speakers, helping to set the festive feeling.
Mickey & Minnie’s Holiday Party
As the party begins, the deck is filled with big band and swing-styled music, including original songs and more classic tunes. There are human hosts and dancers, who engage in a high-energy, festive celebration.
The hosts sing and dance along with the characters, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, who are hosting the party.
Everyone is bedecked in festive attire not otherwise seen aboard the ship at any show or meet and greet.
The other party guests begin to arrive, including Chip, Dale, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy.
After Goofy arrives, he’s handed a letter from his son Max, who says that he hopes he’ll get to come to the holiday party but wants to wish Goofy a happy holiday if he doesn’t make it.
Goofy is heartbroken that his son may not make the festive celebration.
The other party guests sing songs and dance with Goofy to try to make his spirit bright.
Mickey and Minnie are both wearing real tap shoes and perform an entire tap dancing number.
The party guests insist that family isn’t just people who are related to you, but that family is who you choose.
As Goofy dances with the rest of the partygoers, Max comes in, and a pantomime during the music shows the other party guests hiding Max. They make a dance line to reveal him to Goofy.
Father and son embrace and Goofy expresses that he’s glad Max made it, but didn’t think he would be there.
Max tells Goofy that he only wrote the letter just in case he couldn’t make it, and there’s nowhere else he’d rather be for the holiday than with his family.
As the party ends, a magical snowfall settles across the deck, covering the audience in “snoap.”
