New Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Maui Magnet Arrives at Walt Disney World

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has a new magnet featuring Maui — no, not the “Moana” character, but the resort’s mascot version of the ancient Hawai’ian hero. We found the magnet in BouTiki, the resort’s main gift shop.

Maui Magnet – $16.99

Maui is depicted as a small wooden sculpture with a sun-like headdress. A larger version of this sculpture is in the lobby of the Great Ceremonial House.

The logo for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is on a plaque in front of Maui. The plaque also features his face on the top and bottom. While the front of the magnet is three-dimensional, the back is flat.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort opened with Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971. It was designed by Welton Becket and Associates, and built by US Steel Realty Development. The resort’s main building is the Great Ceremonial House, with an attached Monorail station. The Monorail station connects the resort to the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and the Transportation and Ticket Center.

The Monorail station and Great Ceremonial House porte-cochere were completely redone in 2021. Also that year, many rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort were given a “Moana” makeover. Soft goods inside the Great Ceremonial House were replaced in early 2023.
