New Trailer for Marvel’s ‘Echo’ Teases TV-MA Rating, Release Date Changed

Marvel Studios has released a new “Rampage” trailer for “Echo,” a miniseries that follows Maya Lopez a.k.a. Echo, who first appeared in “Hawkeye.” Amid this summer’s strikes, the series release date was changed multiple times, but we now know all five episodes will be released on both Disney+ and Hulu on January 9.

The new trailer features narration and text emphasizing the show’s TV-MA rating. Disney+ users will need to ensure TV-MA content is turned on to watch. The trailer includes several violent and bloody moments. Watch it below.

“Echo” director and executive producer Sydney Freeland told ComicBook.com that Maya is a villain and “tonally, we wanted to lean into that.”

“Thematically, this show is sort of an exploration of trauma,” Freeland added, “how we deal with it, how we cope with it, how it affects us, how we affect it, how it affects those around us. The theme of the show is very much, we’re trying to be street, we’re operating a little more on a street level sort of view. These aren’t cosmic consequences. It’s not the fate of the universe at stake. This is the fate of family. And what we’re going to see is sort of the beginnings of the origin for not only Maya Lopez but then also this sort of seismic sort of fracturing event that’s going to affect her entire family. And that we’re going to see has ripples and consequences throughout the entire show.”

“Echo” will be the first Marvel series released under their “Marvel Spotlight” banner focusing on “grounded, character-driven stories” instead of the larger MCU story.

In the comics, Maya has superpowers, but Freeland confirmed that she does not have those powers in “Echo.”
