Disney Live Entertainment let fans in on the secrets behind what makes the snoap effects in “World of Color – Season of Light” at Disney California Adventure so special.

Nothing gets you into the wintry holiday spirit like looking into the sky and see snow falling. But in places where snow isn’t likely, like Disneyland, the folks at Disney Live Entertainment rely on the next best thing: snoap.

The soapy concoction gives the appearance of snow without having to rely on the weather. But, during “World of Color – Season of Light,” guests don’t experience any old snoap, instead they get magical heart-shaped snoap that floats up into the sky, instead of down onto the ground.

In a post shared to the Disney Live Entertainment Instagram account, KC Wilkerson, Principal Media and Video Designer for Disney Live Entertainment explained exactly how the snoap works, saying that each “snowflake” is filled with air and helium. The sit in a box disguised as a Chritmas present until the top is lifted and away the snoap goes! Read his full explanation here:

One of the things that. You will see when you view ‘World of Color: Season of Light’ is snoap. What that is is a shape that’s made out of foam. That foam is filled with air and helium. When we were developing ‘Season of Light,’ we thought, ‘okay, wouldn’t it be crazy if all of these beautiful snowflakes started floating up throughout the audience?’ and that’s where we landed. So, I know this looks like a beautifully-wrapped package behind me, but it’s not. It’s actually where our soap lives. The top of the package opens, and at the appropriate point in the show, all of the snoap flakes are released into the sky.
