Disney on Broadway a.k.a. Disney Theatrical Productions is developing a “Tangled” stage adaptation, BroadwayWorld confirmed.
“Tangled” Stage Show
Disney has not officially announced a “Tangled” stage show and the production may never actually make it to Broadway. As BroadwayWorld points out, Disney Theatrical has previously developed shows just for professional licensing and schools. They have also announced productions that were ultimately canceled.
“Tangled: The Musical” is a one-hour stage show on Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Magic featuring three new songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, who respectively wrote the music and lyrics for the original Disney film. Disney Cruise Line had a “virtual viewing” of “Tangled: The Musical” in 2020 which is available to watch below.
“Tangled” is Disney’s animated adaptation of the Rapunzel story by the Brothers Grimm. It was directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard from a screenplay by Dan Fogelman. It stars Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel. In 2012, Disney released a short film sequel called “Tangled Ever After.” In 2017, “Tangled: Before Ever After,” a short film set between the events of “Tangled” and “Tangled Ever After,” premiered on Disney Channel. “Tangled: Before Ever After” was the first episode of “Tangled: The Series,” later known as “Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure,” which aired for three seasons from 2017 to 2020.
Disney on Broadway announced last year that they were developing a “Coco” stage show.
