Aaron LaBerge, the president and chief technology officer of Disney Entertainment and ESPN, is leaving Disney after more than 20 years with the company.

Aaron LaBerge to Leave ESPN

Aaron LaBerge, previously president and CTO of Disney Entertainment and ESPN.

LaBerge said in a memo to Disney staff on Monday that he had made the decision to leave Disney.

This was a personal decision, driven by the needs of my family. I’m working with Alan [Bergman], Dana [Walden], and Jimmy [Pitaro] to plan a smooth transition, and I’ll be here until the end of June to help ensure a seamless handoff that positions everyone for continued success.

LaBerge will join sports-betting company Penn Entertainment as CTO beginning on July 1, 2024. He will continue to work with Disney on ESPN Bet, a rebranding of Penn’s Barstool Sportsbook.

My journey with Disney doesn’t end here. I’ll be joining the extended family at PENN Entertainment, working with Disney and ESPN on ESPN BET. This new role is exciting because I’ll get to continue to contribute to our company’s success from a new vantage point, while also being home for my family.

Disney is searching for a replacement for LaBerge. Chris Lawson, VP of content operations for Disney Entertainment and ESPN, will take on an interim leadership role as needed.
