“Deadpool & Wolverine” continues to break records. After grossing $38.5 million on just its Thursday night previews, the film has raked in $205 million domestically.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Opening Weekend Records
“Deadpool & Wolverine” is one of only nine films to have crossed $200 million in its opening weekend, passing “Black Panther” ($202M) to become the eighth-biggest opening of all time. It’s just behind “The Avengers,” which made $207M.
The film had the highest-grossing preview day for any R-rated film and now has the biggest R-rated opening weekend ever, breaking the record set by the first “Deadpool,” which made $132M in its first weekend.
The film also has the biggest opening of the year, passing “Inside Out 2,” which had a $155M debut and ultimately became the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” has made $233.3M internationally for a total of $438 million. It’s already the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2024 and is likely to rocket to the top of the list. It ensured the MCU was the first franchise to make over $30 billion globally. The film’s trailer earned the Guinness World Record for “most viewed movie trailer in 24 hours.”
Shawn Levy directed “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. It was announced in 2022 after a long and difficult development process complicated by Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox. It’s the MCU’s first R-rated film.
