It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.” In April, the first footage from the series premiered at Star Wars Celebration in London. Since then, there has been no new information until now.

In the exclusive interview with People, Jude Law discussed the upcoming project and what fans can expect when it is released.

Law, who will play Jod Na Nawood in the coming-of-age series set in the same New Republic era as “The Mandalorian,” described the series as “joyful.” He also promises plenty of “Star Wars” Easter eggs.

It is a fun place to be, the universe of “Star Wars.” And there are great references to old films and recent episodes and series. There’s a lot of originality and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it. If you look carefully, [we] got some “Star Wars” tech that dates right back, I believe, to the original film. They do [Easter eggs] so well. That’s one of the joys I think of this universe for those who know there are these little details always hidden away or Easter eggs that people can find and link up.

The plethora of Easter eggs was backed by series co-creator Jon Watts who said:

Even in the first episode, there’s a couple really, really great references that certain fans will immediately recognize.

But Watts and co-creator Christopher Ford also wanted to find some deeper cuts for fans, and they promise that more challenging references will be hidden throughout the series.

Nick Frost (“Shaun of the Dead”), a newly announced addition to the cast, will play a new droid named SM 33. Watts describes the droid as “a rusty old, cranky droid that sort of reluctantly helps the kids along the way.” He also happens to be the first mate of a mysterious ship.

The series is now scheduled to premiere on December 3, 2024 on Disney+. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the Oscar-winning directors of “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” have directed one episode. The series is said to be an Amblin-like coming-of-age adventure.
