‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Writers Reveal Scrapped Avengers Reunion Plans

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, two of the writers on Marvel Studios’ smash hit, “Deadpool and Wolverine,” have revealed that the film originally had a scene that was to feature all of the Avengers.

In an interview with IndieWire, Reese and Wernick state that the scene where Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) meets with Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) and asks to join the Avengers originally had two different variations. The first was to feature Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) alongside Hogan, denying Wilson entry into the Avengers due to his questionable “team player abilities.”

The scene would have been very similar to the one seen in the final film, just with the inclusion of Tony Stark. Reese and Wernick were unaware at that time of Marvel’s plans to bring back Downey as Doctor Doom in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” which could potentially serve as a reason why the cameo didn’t happen.

The writers then went on to reveal that an even earlier version of the scene had all of the Avengers in the room with Wade. They were to reject him, “and then he dressed all the Avengers down in a way only Deadpool could do.”

Jokes like Wade trying to pick up Thor’s hammer would have made their way into the scene as well, with Deadpool’s good friend, Peter (Rob Delaney), casually being able to pick up the hammer.

“Deadpool and Wolverine” has already broken many box office records, and is on its way to crossing $1 billion worldwide.

Storytime with Deadpool recently debuted at Disney California Adventure. Guests can find the character alongside Wolverine roaming around Avengers Campus and occasionally riding on a toy unicorn.
