The new food item is now available at The Friar’s Nook. On a recent trip to Walt Disney World, we made our way to the quick-service restaurant to try the new hand pie.

This “hand pie” is trying hard to be an empanada but it just doesn’t hit quite right. The top is nice and crispy but the bottom is soggy, which made it really difficult to cut into. Maybe we were supposed to eat it with our hands rather than cut it, but since it’s covered in cheese sauce, it’s not the easiest thing to eat without utensils. That being said, if you cut into it, the inside goes everywhere, which kind of defeats the purpose of the snack.

No matter how you eat it, it’s a mess. Additionally, we couldn’t even tell you what the green stuff on top is. It may be cilantro, but it tastes like nothing.

The mac & cheese inside the item is the classic mac & cheese that is served as a side at Walt Disney World. It’s not great, but it’s not bad either. The cheese sauce on top is probably the same cheese sauce you’d get as a side with a pretzel. If it’s not, it tastes just like it.

Overall, we found the mac & cheese hand pie boring. Picky eaters may love this, after all, it’s just cheese and fried dough, which is hard to mess up. However, we found the name to be much more exciting than the food itself and wouldn’t recommend rushing to get this.

A hand with painted nails and rings is shown with orange, sticky food substance on its fingers, against a backdrop of green foliage.

If you’re not a fan of messy food, then we don’t recommend this item. Just look at the photo above! We’d also avoid this if you don’t enjoy the taste of processed cheese.

In the end, the mac & cheese hand pie doesn’t overly disappoint, but it doesn’t wow either. It’s just there.
