Tour a Buzz Lightyear Room at Shanghai Disney Resort’s Toy Story Hotel

Stay in Star Command with a Buzz Lightyear-themed room at the Toy Story Hotel of Shanghai Disney Resort. The value resort first opened in 2016 but the Buzz-inspired rooms opened last year, along with new family suites.

Buzz Lightyear Room at Toy Story Hotel

This is the world’s first Toy Story-themed hotel. This Buzz Lightyear room theme is relatively new.

A closet with a colorful mural of a space-themed character. It has shelves, a foldable luggage rack, a hanging rail with orange hangers, and a pouch with white tissue paper on the left wall.

Starting with the closet, this part of the room sets the stage and makes you feel as though you’re sleeping in the queue of Alien Swirling Saucers (though this is enclosed and air-conditioned). The art style is identical.

A colorful mural of a space-themed character, possibly a toy, decorates a small corner with shelves and a hanger in a room. The walls feature space station designs and the floor has bright patterns.

On the interior closet wall, we have Buzz Lightyear’s spacesuit. This graphic somewhat reminds us of the Incredibles’ suits inside the closets at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. It makes more sense here as this is a “value” hotel. We think this is very cool.

Colorful sci-fi-themed room corner featuring a luggage rack, hangers, and a wall decorated with futuristic equipment illustrations. The floor is carpeted with a star and square pattern.

Some of this art might be recycled, as we recognized the grabber tool on this side of the closet. We do love that every inch of the closet is covered in themed art, including the underside of the top shelf.

A wall-mounted storage pocket contains a "Toy Story Hotel" booklet and several neatly folded white bags. The adjacent wall and door display cartoon-style artwork.

Along the left side of the closet wall is a storage area for the standard slippers for the Toy Story Hotel — which you do get to take home with you. You also get a reusable Toy Story Hotel bag to help keep your items safe on the journey back home.

The slippers all look the same, with one featuring Woody’s sheriff’s star badge and the other with the Star Command icon for Buzz Lightyear. These slippers do not say “Andy” on the bottom, like the slippers at the Toy Story Hotel at Tokyo Disney Resort.

Bathroom with a large mirror framed in blue with illustrations, a sink, and a countertop. Two wall-mounted lights flank the mirror. In the background, a bathtub and red-and-white tiled wall are visible.

Moving over to the bathroom, there is a great Buzz Lightyear tile around the large mirror at the sink.

Modern bathroom sink with an oval basin, a countertop holding toiletries, and an open storage area underneath containing two stools. A partial view of the shower and toilet is visible in the background.

The vanity itself is quite large. There is also a stepstool for any smaller guests to be able to reach the sink and the mirror.

A hair dryer is kept in one of the vanity drawers, and there’s plenty of space for storage.

A disposable cup wrapped in plastic featuring a "Toy Story Hotel" design with Buzz Lightyear, placed on a bathroom sink counter with a partially visible mirror and blue wall in the background.

Paper cups with the Toy Story Hotel logo are available on the counter should you need them. You can also take them home.

A bathroom counter with two bottles of water and a soap dispenser. A mirror with a blue decorative frame is attached to the wall above the counter.

There are also two bottles of water in the bathroom, which are meant to be used for brushing your teeth and washing your face and hair.

A universal power outlet with multiple plug options and a USB port is installed on a wall. The outlet has a protective cover open, and the label indicates it is for shavers only.

Here, we have USB-C and USB outlets along with other plugs. A two-prong plug will also work here without an adapter.

A bathroom with a white shower curtain featuring a cartoon frog flying a rocket design, a toilet, and a towel rack with folded white towels.

This shower curtain is adorable and features sketch art of Little Green Aliens rocketing through the air with jetpacks and actual rockets.

A small bathroom with a toilet, a bathtub with a curtain featuring rocket illustrations, a towel rack with folded towels, a toilet paper dispenser, and a waste bin. Red and white tiles adorn one wall.

The shower’s tile is reminiscent of Pizza Planet, thanks to the red and white checker pattern. We wish that the shower curtain could have been more forward with the Pizza Planet theming, but we still like the one we got.

Wall-mounted dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel against a red and white tiled background.

We really like that the shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispensers are sealed, and you can see that they have been cleaned. Baby shampoo and baby bath foam are also available.

A white bathtub with a red and white tiled wall, a shower curtain featuring a cartoon drawing, a towel draped over the tub edge, and a grab bar attached to the wall.

A bath mat is rolled away and tucked into a corner of the tub, so you don’t slip when showering or bathing. Otherwise, this is your standard shower and tub setup.

A hotel room with a space-themed decor, featuring two beds, a TV, a small table with chairs, and cartoon characters on the walls and bedding. The room has a window with curtains partially drawn.

Going back to the sleeping area, we think this is adorable and love it. It’s over the top for sure, but we think that this is perfect for a value resort, as they are meant for families with kids — or those who are kids at heart.

Room with space-themed wall art featuring aliens from "Toy Story" and futuristic control panels. Room includes shelving, luggage, and a coffee machine.

This height measurement graphic on the wall next to the closet is of course in the metric system, but still a cute photo op for the room.

A hotel room features space-themed decor including a control panel wall design, a flat-screen TV, and a round table with chairs. The room includes star-patterned carpeting and a hanging light fixture.

We love the faux space window on the wall opposite the beds. It makes us think of the windows in the rooms of the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

A TV mounted on a colorful entertainment console with a spaceship-themed design and accompanying coffee machine, in a room with space-themed decor and star-patterned carpet.

This dresser unit includes a three-dimensional red valve on one cabinet door on the far left, and while it doesn’t spin, the cabinet does open to reveal a standard mini-fridge.

A countertop with a Nespresso machine, water bottles, a display of various items including a box and a colorful informational card, situated in a brightly decorated room.

On top of the mini-fridge cabinet is an espresso machine, a coffee maker, and a black box full of coffee pods and creamer. Bottles of water are also lined along the wall. A set of outlets is behind the water bottles.

A purple and gray entertainment unit with a spacecraft theme has several drawers, one of which is open, revealing a colorful design. A remote sits on the top surface. The floor features star patterns.

The dresser itself contains a folder with information about the resort, and a drawer with tea supplies. How many Disney hotels still in the world have a mug for the hotel? This is one of those things that’s become impossible to find worldwide, and is what we expected.

An open purple drawer with a colorful, cartoon-style space-themed illustration inside, featuring a camera, a ray gun, buttons, and a flying spacecraft creature. The drawer is part of a larger piece of furniture.

The bottom of the top right drawer is themed and looks as though Buzz Lightyear has dropped all of his supplies inside.

A room wall adorned with spaceship-themed designs, including a framed cartoon image of spaceships and control panel graphics. A small toy alien sits on the bed nearby.

A dehumidifier is sat against this far left wall next to the bed; this is quite common to see in the Asia Disney hotels. Next to it is a themed wall with another porthole “window,” depicting a Star Command spaceship preparing to dock. The climate control panel is also located on this wall.

A hotel room with space-themed decor, including a mural featuring an astronaut and a bed with a round green alien plush toy.

There’s other fun decor throughout the sleeping area like Little Green Alien throw pillows, a Rubik’s Cube bedside table,

A nightstand designed like a Rubik's Cube sits between two beds with white linens. The nightstand holds a phone, clock, notepad, and electrical outlets.

The front panel of this bedside table is actually a cabinet door, and opens to reveal a safe.

A bedside table with a digital alarm clock, notepad with pen, channel guide, power outlets, and a no-smoking sign.

Another offering that isn’t quite as common at the domestic parks is hotel-themed pens and a notepad.

A black corded phone with buttons is on a colorful table next to a clock displaying an icon. A "No Smoking" sign is visible on the wall behind them.

There is also a hotel room phone and alarm clock.

A variety of power outlets and a USB port are mounted on a wooden wall above a "No Smoking" sign in Chinese and English. Below, an analog telephone, an alarm clock, and a cable box are visible.

There are plenty of outlets here as well, including two plugs and USB-A and USB-C plugs on the left, and two more outlets with two USB-A ports on the right. The light switches are also located here.

A themed hotel room with two beds, space-related wall art featuring a cartoon astronaut and aliens, space-themed decor, a multi-colored cube between the beds, and a star-patterned carpet.

Overlooking the entire bedroom area, you can get a greater view of the mural along the back wall, depicting Buzz Lightyear laser blasting an asteroid above a rocky red planet.

A hotel room with a themed decor featuring space elements. The room has a double bed with character pillows, a small table with chairs, and large windows with green and white curtains.

To the left of the leftmost bed is a set of double windows, which we like. It gives the room a feeling of size, though the room is not small. There is also some Star Command theming above the curtains.

A small round table with two wooden chairs is set against a wall with colorful, futuristic designs. The carpet features star patterns. Books and slippers are on the floor.

A small table in front of the leftmost bed appears to be made out of a Sorry! game piece, with a wooden chair on either side.

A colorful wall-mounted puzzle with a green frame features a partially completed image of yellow animated characters. The puzzle is set against a wall with a space-themed design.

Two more outlets can be found on the wall here, with USB-A and USB-C ports as well. Above the outlet, though, is a highlight for us — a thing in the room you can play with.

Along the wall here is a massive, working slider puzzle. You can see the completed image via a sticker on the bottom right corner, which is a Little Green Alien flying through space with a jetpack.

A blue table displaying Toy Story-themed items, including sealed blue packaging, an envelope containing papers, and a small booklet featuring animated characters.

Here is our welcome packet for the room, which includes an Amenities Bag, a park map, and cute room keys.

A “Hi Summer” box of notecards and window clings of “Toy Story” character innertubes was also left for us on this table.

A room corner with themed decor, featuring a stylized lampshade hanging from the ceiling. The walls have futuristic designs and the window is covered with green-striped curtains.

The lighting fixture above the table is themed, too, which we enjoy.

Colorful carpet with a pattern of yellow stars and green planetary rings on a checkered background of blue, gray, and beige squares.
A bed is covered with a towel featuring green aliens from Toy Story. Beside it, slippers and a cushion with Buzz Lightyear are visible. The floor is covered with a space-themed carpet.

You get a few things to take home when staying in this room; sadly, you can’t take home the Little Green Alien pillows. The first of these items is a Little Green Alien towel.

A luggage tag featuring an airplane with blue wings design and a tag with text rests on a striped fabric surface.

Another of these items is a Star Command logo luggage tag.

A blue airplane-shaped luggage tag with blank label and attached with a white string is placed on a striped white fabric background.

The back of the tag has lines for you to write your information down.

A colorful cloth featuring a cartoon astronaut with a laser gun, lying on a striped bedding set. Another character is partially visible on the left, and a small fabric piece is on the right.

Next is a double-sided pillowcase. One side is navy blue and features Buzz Lightyear rocketing into action.

A green cushion cover featuring a blue silhouette of Buzz Lightyear and a "Toy Story Hotel" logo with both English and Japanese text.

The other side is yellow and has Buzz’s silhouette above the Toy Story Hotel logo.

Four pairs of kids' slippers featuring a cartoon character placed on a paper mat on a colorful, star-themed carpet.

The room also includes three pairs of slippers, with one of them for kids. All three pairs are navy blue and feature the same design: a Little Green Alien whooshing through space on a jet pack, with the opposite shoe reading “Ooooohh.”

We weren’t expecting so many take-home items, as at Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disney Resort, extras are normally an add-on to the room that you purchase when booking. We’re not sure, but it could be possible these items are also for sale in the hotel.

We’re quite surprised with just how much there is to take home from this hotel room — they’ve almost outdone Tokyo Disney Resort in this regard.

Final Thoughts

A hotel room with a space-themed decor, featuring colorful murals of spaceships and aliens on the walls and ceiling, a bed with a green alien pillow, a TV, and a small desk with a lamp.

Overall, we’re pretty impressed with the room and think it’s a lot of fun. If you’re a “Toy Story” fan, this is a no-brainer stay. That being said, if you’re not going to spend a lot of time in the room, we don’t think the upsell is worth it unless the theme really means something to you.

You do get early entry access to Shanghai Disneyland if you stay at either of the hotels, which is a great benefit. However, if you’re planning to spend a day in the park open to close, it may not be the best decision for you. It’s quite a price jump from the regular room.

There is also a Woody-themed room, but we didn’t have time to check it out. Maybe next time!
