Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Under Tornado Watch as Tropical Storm Debby Approaches

Most of Florida is currently under a Tornado Watch as Tropical Storm Debby approaches the Gulf Coast of the state.

Tropical Storm Debby

Debby is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall in the Big Bend of Florida. The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for most of the state and some of Georgia. This is in effect until at least 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 4. A watch means that tornadoes are possible. Hail up to half an inch in size and isolated wind gusts up to 70 MPH are also possible.

The Tornado Watch encompasses Orlando and the surrounding areas, home to Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort. The theme parks have not announced any operational changes but guests should expect outdoor attractions to close and outdoor entertainment to be canceled. Keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app and Universal Orlando Resort app for operational updates.

A weather map shows the probable path and forecast cone of Tropical Storm Debby, including warning areas in the Gulf Coast and Southeastern US. The storm's current location and warnings are detailed, along with a tornado watch issued for affected regions.

The National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center will continue to share updates about Debby. The latest forecast predicts landfall will be around 8 a.m. on Monday morning.
