Eight years after the fifth “Ice Age” film was released, star John Leguizamo announced that “Ice Age 6” is in the works.

Leguizamo announced the sixth film on NPR’s “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me” this week. He impersonated Sid the sloth to say, “We’re about to do ‘Ice Age’ six,” in response to host Peter Sagal mentioning his son’s love of the franchise.

The first “Ice Age” was released in 2002, a production of the now-defunct Blue Sky Studios. The fifth film, “Ice Age: Collision Course,” was released in 2016. Soon after, Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, Blue Sky, and the “Ice Age” franchise.

Disney released the spinoff “The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild” on Disney+ in 2022 after Disney+ became the home of all things “Ice Age.” They released the series “Ice Age: Scrat Tales” in the same year. Both were celebrated with sand sculptures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Disney shut down Blue Sky Studios in 2021, making “Scrat Tales” the studio’s final production. A sixth “Ice Age” would be the first film in the series not produced by Blue Sky, as well as Disney’s first theatrical “Ice Age” release. The franchise has produced over $6 billion in revenue since 2002.
