Among the exclusive offerings at Oogie Boogie Bash in Disney California Adventure is Villains Grove. This experience turns the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail into an eerie, magical space inspired by your favorite and most fearsome Disney Villains.
Villains Grove
Disney Villains have taken over this enchanted grove thanks to lights, projections, props, fog, and soundscapes. Villains Grove is split into sections inspired by different villains.
Guests enter through Frollo’s Sanctuary, described as “an otherworldly cathedral of trees infused with incense smells and chanting voices.”
There are dozens of candles among the trees.
Stained glass-inspired designs are projected onto the sidewalk.
Next is Maleficent’s Will, where green vines creep up rockwork.
Disney describes this area as a “region replete with eerie ravens, thorn-spiked vines and a seemingly spellbound waterfall of cascading color!”
The Cheshire Cat welcomes guests into the Queen of Hearts Garden. The character appears via projections in an alcove surrounded by purple and pink stripes.
Signs pointing every which way seem to change right before your eyes with each flicker of the lights.
Guests then wander through a garden of white roses that paint themselves red.
The Queen of Hearts also appears via projection and she can be heard demanding to know who painted her roses.
Guests then head down into Scar’s Elephant Graveyard, a “vast expanse that echoes with hyena laughter!” Hyena-inspired patterns are projected onto the ground.
Smoke illuminated to look like fire shoots up from rocky outcroppings.
The silhouettes of hyenas march through green light.
Colorful projections and jazzy music indicate the arrival of Dr. Facilier’s Friends on the Other Side.
“Summoned by the great beyond, shadowy hands and colorful spells lure Guests deeper into the grove’s darkest corners.”
Facilier’s shadow and skulls appear, projected on the ground.
Guests then walk towards a blue light into The Wicked Queen’s Lightning Forest.
Here, strings of light on trees, accompanied by intense sounds and flashes of light, make it appear as though a storm is tearing through the forest.
Between cracks of thunder and lightning are moments of calm, when guests can hear the sweet sounds of the forest animals.
How will you escape the Villains Grove? Thankfully, the next stop is the Home of the Wisps. “Watch these winged caretakers guide Guests to safety amid a magical bastion of endless light.”
Guests then approach Dawn: “Escape in the nick of time as flickering lanterns lead the way toward a brilliant sunrise and the conclusion of this mythical trip!”
