As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life.

We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide.

Per Deadline, Debra Martin Chase is producing, after originating the film franchise. Executive producers include Lim’s producing partner Naia Cucukov and Melissa Stack.

Disney originally announced that the film was in development in 2022, per Variety.

Actor Anne Hathaway (Mia Thermopolis) has said in the press that development on the film was “in a good place,” and she is expected to return though no deal is in place, per The Hollywood Reporter. Actor Julie Andrews said to TODAY in March 2024 that she’d “be very happy if we did do another one” but that she didn’t expect to. Her reprisal of Queen Clarisse Renaldi has not been confirmed.
